Looks like the end of 105.1 FM Talk is Nov. 1

Maybe a return of alternative rock then.

Seriously Marv? ???

Are you just guessing, or what? That's the format they dropped to go to the last one they had because it wasn't working for them.

In the market I live in ( Columbus, Ohio) Clear Channel has made 3 different attempts at the modern rock format. So Mainline could make a second attempt if they want to. I don't think they will try a HotAC format since they have Max 102.3. I doubt they'll try to go after EZ106.9 but who knows? I guess they will do some research to see what will work there.

How is the signal in the dowtown area? If they were to try AC they will need a signal on par with 106.9 in order to reach most of that audience which listen in office buildings. I guess they could try it or maybe country classics would work better on 105.1.

There in lies the problem. Even with the upgrade a few years back it had little chance downtown. Another upgrade will not happen because 105.1 as a facility is maxed out when you consider all of the co-channel and adjacent channel protections that have to be taken into account. It is what it is unless WUBE skips in then it doesn't exist.

Classic Country would be the Hail Mary pass that might have success considering the coverage area but even then it would be a longshot at best.

Sure! Flip to Country Classics and go up against WRKA! Sounds like a winner to me! I'm being sarcastic if you can't tell. That would be a bad decision.

The talk format they had was probably the best use of the frequency...most listening to that format takes place in cars...and that's where their marginal signal is adequate. I like to think someone smarter than I made this decision...not so sure this time.

Exactly! They've tried about every music format imaginable on that station. The talk was good for a preset when no good music was playing. Well, how about Disco 105.1? LOL

Maybe it's time that we start turning off all these "marginal" frequencies; or at least letting them serve local communities rather than panhandle for what little bit of money is left in the metro areas.

I've been saying that for years!

My guess is they'll go all sports with the new CBS Sports format.

An FM in Cincinnati just announced they're going All Christmas, and will come out as CBS Sports, when the network launches on January 2nd.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen in Louisville.

I thought the same thing when I read about Mojo 100.3 changing to CBS Sports in January. If I'm not mistaken,105.1 used to be owned by Radio One who is flipping Mojo 100.3. Kind of ironic if it happens. And then they can turn the Stereo back off to help their signal :)
