I'd say once again, you are right on the money.

Once again, I'd say you have too much time on your hands if you had to look all this up... but it doesn't matter even if they gave the recievers away... nobody's listening to this HD stuff except radio geeks since they are the ones buying this equipment... so be my guest and post more retail outlets... it means nothing to the real consumers out there buying and WalMart has just proved it!

Next will be Best Buy, Circuit City and the rest of the suckers that bought into stocking these NO-SALE items onto their shelves!

No... I'd say you change the original topic of the post... I said Walmart discontinued the HD home tuners... I never said any other stores stop selling HD radios... You posted your silly list of stores to counter my original question of WHY Walmart stop selling the HD clock radios...

So I'd say YOU have no argument!

Wow - impressive list ! How long did that take ? A zillion stores can stock HD radios, but only radio-geeks and Baby Boomers are buying - BTW, my review of the Receptor HD has been on Circuit City's site for six months, yet has received only 570 votes:

http://tinyurl.com/yomcgh

Yea, looks like HD/IBOC is stalling:

"Bridge Ratings: Sweat the cell phone and don't count on HD"

"In other words, Bridge says interest in HD radio is decreasing even as your station works hard to increase awareness. What can I possibly add to this honest and bleak picture that I haven't said before? My well-intended warnings about HD's "premature death" seem to be rearing their ugly heads almost two years later."

You're kidding rigth? You think stores are stocking these things because no one is buying. You can't be that dumb.

I missed this little gem "only radio-geeks and Baby Boomers are buying"

So baby boomers are buying HD radio. Let me tell you that if only baby boomers bought HD radios that would be more than enough to make this technology succeed. We boomers are so great in number compared to any other single group of Americans that in reality those in their 30's and late 20's could disappear and no one would notice (Other than the fact that you will have to pay into Social Security until you're 70 or older). Face facts, as population goes, there are us boomers and everyone else. The next mini boomare those who are in their late teens and very early 20's.

Yeah...stores always stock the items nobody wants, and manufacturers rush to produce the products nobody buys. That's the way it works. Don't you ever feel silly saying things like that?

As for Wal Mart, don't forget more radio listening is done in cars than any other single location. That's why satellite was quick on the draw with car radios. It was a LONG TIME before there were dedicated home units. Years, in fact (the car units were "transportable"...but that ain't the same thing as a dedicated COMPONENT tuner). With HD, home and car units were introduced almost simultaneously. It's portables that are "late to the party", but they're coming.

There is MUCH merchandise in Wal Mart stores that's not on the website (I'd wager that MOST of what's in stores isn't on the web)...again illustrating the folly of believing that all knowledge can be found, or even relates to, the internet! Wal-Mart is first and foremost a "brick and mortar" store.

Mike

You almost make me laugh coming across this board like some 'Crusader' repying to every post as if your words washes the slate clean or something... LOL!

Right... So basically the home HD tuners aren't out for some time already, perhaps several years and now you claim the car units are first etc. Look the car HD units were out for about 3 years or more and nothing except maybe hundreds were bought by radio geeks like yourself, and others, now Walmart stocked the HD CLOCK radios either in it's stores or on the website, but now they have DISCONTINUED selling them except the car radio for now.. until they see no one's buying them, they too will disappear from Walmart's website if they don't sell... soon lots of other stores will follow suit!

Like I said Mike, when the HD portable comes out in December...I'll be the FIRST to buy one and post my comments on this site!

Once again see what Walmart was stocking then and now....

You are correct - the Receptor HD is gone and the car HD unit will surley follow. I hope that you will be willing to spend $80+ on portable HD, if that ever happens (portable DAB radios have been out for years and are priced $80 - $300) - I'de be interested in finding out, how much worse reception will be for portable HD.

The reason why I comment about buying one and posting my comments is that I GUARANTEE to everyone on this HD board that I will purchase one IF and WHEN they ever come out with a portable unit similar to the Stilleto or Ipod...

Now knowing that...I GUARANTEE that the HD radio manufacturers will NEVER come out with something portable that comes close to a 1970's 5 transistor AM/FM radio in size!

Gone from lack of sales, I'll bet. Wait...THEY HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN THEM IN YET! Wishing something doesn't make it so.

By the way...the word is spelled "surely", as in "surely" some here aren't actually THAT dim-witted!

It's obvious you didn't check out the website for Walmart I posted because if you did, you'd see they NO LONGER LIST ANY HD RADIOS except for the JVC HD car unit!

Hand-held HD will be way too expensive, as hand-held DAB radios have been out for years, and start at $80:

http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/dabreceivers.html#handheld

Since all HD radios have been so ugly, I wonder, if hand-held HD will be as ugly as the DAB radios ? :D BTW, the average battery life of the hand-held DAB radios is 15 hours - my hand-held analog Sony averages 45 hours, and costs only $10.

This prediction from the same people who told us that it would be YEARS before the cost of HD radios dipped below 200-300 dollars. It's now as low as 59.95.

HD radio is simpler and cheaper to implement than satellite, because many of the components required are already commonly available. And you won't have to wear an antenna IN YOUR HEADPHONES!

I wouldn't quite say that... Now it looks like some prices are easing due to no sales of the radios, typical marketing would suggest to bring the prices down...

This is Amazon's offering of HD radio prices and you can see they're not coming down as much as you suggest...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/s...ctronicspi_30578272_1&results-process=default

and here's Crutchfield:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AZ09OvUqUmv/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?c=4&g=305150

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AZ09Ov...l_Features|FFBuilt@in_HD_Radio_Tuner&skipvs=T

Where's that $59.95 HD cheapie you talk about?

Now about that antenna... I'd rather have my antenna co-located with my headphone cable for my portable than to have a BACKPACK ANTENNA I'd have to wear to pick up an HD signal.

Radiopilot

The 59.95 "cheapie" is from Radiosophy. And it's not "prices easing due to no sales of the radios". This is a brand new product. This is the INTRODUCTORY price. You're right, it hasn't been selling very well. It hasn't sold at all. IT WASN'T AVAILABLE! Still isn't, as a matter of fact. But will be soon (although Radiosophy doesn't have the best track record for shipping when they promise! Perhaps by the time CHELSEA Clinton runs for president.)

The radio is on-sale from Radiosophy, plus has a $40 rebate offer from iBiquity - this offer is only good until July, then the radio goes back to $120. This just goes to show, how desperate iBiquity is getting - successful technologies do not need to be put on-sale; consumers waited in line for three days to pay $600 full-price for PS3s.

Not a single one has SHIPPED! "On sale", indeed.

PS3, huh? The best selling gaming system out there is the WII, NOT the PS3. And there was almost no "fuss" at it's introduction.
