The cume for KYSR & KROQ is very close, about 7K listeners. What's going on?
Off the wall theory... which I have any time two similar stations have similar cume but considerably different rating/share: usually both stations are in a highly polarized format, and, while one gets better TSL, it, too, plays some songs some listeners hate. When that happens, they switch to the other station. But one of the two has a better consensus library so they hold listeners longer.

I don't see as much of this recently as the alternative for many is a stream, not "the other station". But looking at the LA situation, I believe there is considerable back and forth sharing.

KYSR's popular morning show certainly benefits TSL.

The Woody Show is not as popular as you might think. Very close in cume to KROQ:

Woody has only fifty thousand more people. Which may once again mean a lot of sharing between the two.

2 year old data. This is very outdated. Unless there is a more recent list, I fail to see the how this is relevant.

It always interests me... Which demo (age group) interests advertisers most? That is probably a loaded question. Depending on the advertiser and what they sell, it could be any of these groups. However, Of the three listed here, I would think the 25-54 age group has the most money to spend. So I might personally target that group. Interested to hear comments about this. (PS, I am quite surprised to read the list of stations top ranked in the 18-34 group. I would never have predicted that.)

When you look closer KROQ beating alt in 18-34 mornings. That Kline ally show is a much better show from a talent/comedy standpoint. 18-34 usually predict what will happen 12-24 months from now with all demos. I have been listening far less to woody and far more to KROQ. I also hear people talking about KROQ more (at least in OC where I live). O

Klein Ally do a good show. Curious how they perform compared to other parts of the day. KROQ is also constantly giving away tickets and seems that is attracting listeners. Last week giving away tickets to the 1975 it seemed in the morning at least people were calling in who didn’t even know what show they were listening to.

18 to 54 is the broad range within which nearly all radio buys that use ratings look at. But most buys are more specific, like Men 35-54 or Spanish dominant women 18-34 or some other gender, age or ethnic subset.

I’ve been told, recently, not well at all. When looking at demos KROQ is “consistently near the 20’s far more often than the 10’s” in rank and hasn’t changed in 2 years.

Woody dominates across the board and it’s not even close. AM is the worst performing daypart at KROQ from what I’ve been told by someone in the building.

In what ranker? 18-34 men? 45-54 women? 34-44 Hispanics? The reason why those 12+ ratings are valueless is that no ad buys use that broad demo.

For example, a station in New York City that is usually around 15th in 12+ ratings is generally among the top 3 highest revenue stations in the market

25-54 Persons primarily. I dont bother with 6+ or 12+. Frankly 18-34 barely matters to me now that I’m on the ad side.

Last year KROQ was 16th. Same month a year later it’s 15th. With some 20th place spots sprinkled in through the year. KYSR has had a rocky 2023 yet they’re 10th (down from 5th/6th last year).

Men ROQ fairs even worse in a spot around 20’s all year while KYSR is in 5th.

I havent seen much to convince me anything at all has changed in almost 2 years.

I'm very skeptical of the claims made in the post I quoted.

I think brokenturner, on the other hand, is correct.

KROQ is a shadow of its former self. The ratings were mediocre more often than not for at least the final five years of Kevin W.'s first run. Because his successor performed even worse, a determination was made that Kevin W. was the right guy to rescue the station. Seems to me Audacy could've found someone better.

Maybe the station is too far gone or irrelevant to be rescued at this point.
