KLAC's audience share dropped from 1.0 to 0.6 while new CBS Sports affiliate KFWB saw an increase from 0.2 to 0.3. Two months ago KFWB was at a 0.1. So KFWB's ratings are steadily climbing.....and KLAC broadcasts the games of the Lakers, who are in last place in the Pacific Division with a record of 3-11. Maybe KLAC would have better ratings if they quit carrying Lakers games. :)

Hey, I'm not a Lakers fan, so I don't really care what station they're on...and obviously I didn't even know which station they're on. So what is the reason for KLAC's decline this month? Or is it simply that KLAC, KFWB, KSPN, KLAA, KWKW and XETRA are all competing for the same audience and sports-talk listeners aren't loyal to any one particular station? Maybe they listen to KLAC for a month and get tired of the station, then switch to KSPN for a few weeks, and then.....

I think out of all of the major formats, sports is the one where there is less information to be gleaned from the 12+ ratings than all of the others. As has been noted here even quite recently, sports can do huge revenue numbers with tiny shares because the typical listener so neatly falls into the highly desirable (salable) demos. I am sure there are advertisers that advertise on KLAC and or KSPN who wouldn't invest in any other local format or station because the results per ad dollar is so effective with these stations.

The dip in KLAC's ratings is most likely to the Dodger season coming to an end, and their live sports now reduced to weekend football. Fans are now splitting their time between the Lakers on KSPN and the Clippers on KFWB.

Among the AM talkers KFI remains dominant with 3.6, also scoring eighth overall including FM stations. KABC, KRLA and KEIB are tied at .07. As has been noted elsewhere the giving up Rush Limbaugh by KFI in favor of "live and local" hasn't hurt.

The big surprise to me is the full point jump of sister station KOST, solidifying iHeartMedia's hold on all top three positions in the FM market. What happened to trigger this I don't know. CBS has three out of the top 10 slots (one less than iHeartMedia) but KNX isn't among them.

XETRA? 690 AM has been XEWW with Spanish talk for a number of years and only very occasionally carries an overflow English language sports event. Plus, it barely covers a small part of the LA market today, so it's not a factor.

Similarly, KWKW is not going for the Baseball-Basketball-Football crowd the other seek. There are only three sports actively covered on KWKW, and they are soccer, soccer and soccer.

Gee, at this rate, in 97 more books, KFWB will have a ten share! :)

In 1958-59, after KFWB switched to a top-40 format as "Color Radio Channel 98" (and before KRLA came along), the Pulse Ratings and Hooper Ratings often showed KFWB with a 40% audience share. Nowadays some station managers get excited with a 2 or 3 share!

KLAC is rumored to be considering moving Dan Patrick's 6-to-9 AM syndicated program and launching a live-and-local morning show to better compete with KFWB. Why can't they simply put late-morning host Bill Reiter on from 6 to 9 and run Patrick's show from 9 to noon? Or is that too simple?
