As you see kiis is programmed perfectly for the market and their niche, while amp and power make mistakes and don't capitalize on their positions. The sound and k-earth prove that even if the market has become more ethnic, if you program your stations correctly, play the right music, you will still be able to win. I know some think k-earth is too tight but for this market it is the right move. They have updated the right way, they play a very strong mix of songs from the 70s and 80s with an emphasis on the 80s as they should. This is not Philly where there is a connection with older rnb music that transcends beyond just a certain age group. The pick up of certain "rock of the 80s" songs is smart for 1011, know your markets history. The stations in Phoenix(adult and classic hits) for example should really pick up on the market hits from the 80s as kzzp of the 80s was a unique listen with their own hits that the market loved. It's funny how kzzp back then played hip hop songs of the time that all other chrs were scared of. History has proven that they were right and those who doubted hip hops mass appeal were wrong. K earth might be able to dig up a few 80s songs that were big on Power 106 at that time that weren't national hits. There are very few that wouldn't alienate the overall sound of the station. I have a few in mind but I'm not going to give that away.:)

The songs that I mean for the adult and classic hits stations are not hip hop, just in case that wasn't clear. There are market exclusive hits from the 80s that are of the more pop sound that would fit. Staying consistent with your demos over time is going to get very difficult as hip hop becomes a major part of the demos classic hits, it is going to take some very innovate thinking and selector magic to navigate those waters, but we are still 7 or 8 years away from that.
