LOU EPTON SAYS FAREWELL - symptom of a bigger problem in vegas talk radio

Lou Epton said farewell today - friday Nov. 2nd., after about 15 years on brokered talk KLAV-AM 1230.

What ashame to have a major market (Vegas) with so many ex-KDWN hosts that have to broker their time on KLAV-AM 1230 due to media consolidation that prohibits local voices due to budgetary and ideological reasons.

All these Vegas frequencies with zero ratings and endless hours of syndicated sports radio and hot talk, and none of these owners will pick up Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Doug Basham, Hart Kirch, Pete Moss, Tru Hawkins, and now, Lou Epton.

Some of these local KDWN refugees would gladly do a show for *FREE* on these frequencies at first, until advertisers would come on board.

He was on 840am 9-12 for a while, until the station went with boring "cookie-cutter" hosts. He called it as he saw it, and was not afraid to go after the Casino Industry when they needed going after. He also made national news when he uncovered an "anthrax" situation, long before the anthrax attack on Congress.

First let me say thank you for your support of the Lou Epton Show, Lou personally showed me this and I felt the need to respond for him. First off its not permanant (off air forever), I am getting a net station started and alas like everything else it takes time. Since the station was sold, it got harder to retain air time for a desent rate, and a desent time slot. Its not from a station trying to shut him up or anything, its more of costs and slots. So yeah bugetary, but not Ideological, in most if not all situations (and I use that loosly) we have not been told (except one) to NOT air a spacific guest, or air a spacific topic. At KLAV we never had that issue. We can if I recall broker time on KDWN but its in the middle of the night, and I am looking to stick Rick Anderson over night on KDWN.

I don't know what to say about AM840, they even get on my nerves as of late with the sheer amount of changes that has been done to the station. I will admit, the lineup was a whole lot better when Gavin was working the station.

So if you guys know how to make a web streaming station work without freaking out on vista I would appriciate any and all advice lol.
