Louisville broadcasters buy station in Alabama

Greetings Friends!

WEEL-AM and translator W261AT (Jalo Broadcasting Inc) have been sold. The new owners are Argie Dale and Bill Price from Louisville, Kentucky (DBA Dothan Broadcasting LLC). Both men are longtime broadcasters in the Louisville market. Applications:

http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101243374&formid=314&fac_num=23614

The AM station will be known as Gospel 700 and the associated FM translator (known as 100.1 The Truth) are on the air and testing until the studio construction is completed.

WEEL and W261AT will simulcast during the daytime only operating hours of the AM station. W261AT will operate 24 hours a day with additional local programming when WEEL is off the air. The stations have plans to stream and a new website is coming soon.

Thanks for the info! His name is ArChie Dale from 1350 WLOU and 1240 WLLV in Louisville. Bill Price is a legend.

LOL, well I thought his name was ArChie oops.

Should have gotten your money up front from Archie. He's known for not paying his bills.....or employees.

Dale and Price are legendary for their dealings. Remember Dale's WDGS-AM antics? A great premise, with Urban AC ahead of its time (circa 1985-86), new facilities, fine staff, great programming, increasing listenership...and a total disaster after it became apparent that even routine bills weren't getting paid. Even banks turned down the station's business!

As for Price, those in the know are aware that he was largely responsible for the nosedive-no, crash- in WLOU's quality and credibility as OM/GM until clueless Johnson Publications got smart and ran him in 1989. By then, it was too late to save the venerable station, as WGZB signed on April 15, 1990...and passed WLOU in the book in only six weeks (the second half of the Spring, 1990 rating periods). WLOU as a Black/Urban outlet hung on until October 31, 1995, when the station was sold and the Urban format retired.

They need to get WLOU/WLLV's amateurish-sounding act together first before venturing out.

That's why Davidson Media had to take back over the stations from Archie. He was supposed to LMA them from Davidson, But after the fourth month and the LMA fees had not been paid, they took back control. With WLOU and WLLV being the ONLY black gospel stations in town, they should be making money hand over fist but I hardly ever hear any spots on WLOU. I'm sure the preachers on WLLV pay it's bills.

I clicked on the links cited in the first post above to look at the FCC 314 for the new Dale/Price station in Alabama, and all that came up was a 314 that was blank except for the facility ID number. Is this an error? I think not.
It's a public record, so why try to hide the information?

I understand Bill Price has fallen seriously ill. I sincerely hope he fully recovers, and I will respectfully refrain from any more discussion of his radio dealings. :( :-X

Bill suffered a stroke two weeks ago. He is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery.
