Love is Dead! Welcome KTU copycat 93.9 Mia to South Florida!

Poleman is trying to re-create New York in Miami. Not original but good stategy. This station will hurt Power, WFLC, any Hispanic targeted stations and too a small extent Y-100. Most affected will be WFLC. Sounds identical to KTU in New York. Freestyle, Disco, Pop hits. Good music mix. Let's see if anyone picks up the Smooth Jazz format. With PPM on the horizon....doubtful. Enjoy and blog away!

they should of just moved mega over to 93.9, the mia name doesn't make sense, the artist M.I.A might get mad and sue, heh

The Movin' format! Cheap format to run. CC now has a station to grab the female 25-54 demo. They'll be able to chip away at Coast and Lite. Although, I think CC could have tried something different.

It's about time a Rhythmic AC comes to Miami. If they don't run the same 200 songs over and over. Play some freestyle, and play some of the classic "Miami Sound" It will fly.

Oh, don't worry about that, they will. When Janice the Receptionist hears 'Let the Music Play' by Shannon for the 30th time that week (and it will only be Tuesday) she'll either fling herself out of a fifth story window or gut the next living thing that comes across her path with a letter opener.

If this is a ture clone of KTU, then it's actuallly a whopping 275 songs (I looked at a pre-Thanksgiving KTU week to avoid the Christmas songs) with about 85 currents and recurrents... quite a few with around 50 spins a week. This is very much an AC approach, if that is what is done.

they knew they were going to make this move earlier this fall, yet they still dropped the adult format on wmib. the former love 94 listeners will now go to hot 105 instead of sampling sister station wmib (the beat). somebody is asleep at the wheel at cc miramar!

The listen link is not working. So far, looking at the playlist it looks like over 250 songs. Let's hope they continue by placing some Hi energy jocks on the air that will not read liner cards.

I am listening to 93.9 mia online (I am in Toronto) and it is a good station. It sounds like the movin station from L.A or SF. It looks like the Miami dial is getting better. The smooth jazz format is disappearing and this should have been done a long time ago. I would like to see 97.3 the coast adjust their format now...

Didn't CC do this in 1999/2000?

Planet 103 became MEGA 1035 which was literally a take off of KTU (jingles, sweepers and all). You saw how long that lasted. Now, what would have worked: Party 93.9 --- "Your PARTY is back" Which may have brought back one or two Party 931 listeners (lol)- which would include today's dance, yesterday's dance. Hence an AC and Mainstream Dance format.

I am actually a Jazz fan myself, well, honestly, I am into all kinds of music and well, I was actually a little surprised by this move and I was thinking it would be a bad one, but is it safe to say that dance music is back in South Florida with a mix of the new with the old?

The concept of bringing Rhythmic AC back to Miami is a great decision. It can and will fail if CC tries to make 93.9 MIA a clone of Coast and a clone of the old mega. This will be a gigantic failure if this is the case.

Agreed my friend. This new station must be tailored to the dance music of Miami, and not be repetitive like the old mega with the burned out disco tracks. If so, we'll see a new format appear.

"smooth jazz" is not jazz.

"Smooth jazz" is re-orchestrated Muzak targeted toward narcoleptics who are musically illiterate enough that they will believe that any music that prominently features a soprano saxophone can be called "jazz". Throw in a couple of m7b5 chords, and they'll think they're really listening to some heavy-duty stuff.

Trust me, nobody sets out with the ambition of becoming a "smooth jazz" musician. Nobody's genuine artistic vision involves being photographed wearing white linen pants and no shoes, leaning against a grand piano in front of a tropical beach backdrop.

Wow, good job stereotyping an entire genre and not only insulting the artist, but the listeners as well. I'm sure they appreciate that. ::)

The format in it's current state is horrible, limited playlist, urban ac/ac songs being overplayed, and no real new artist. Love 94 was no exception, if anything it was probably worse being owned by Clear Channel. Let's be honest here, FM radio in general is dying. This new station may do well for now, but if CC takes the same route it's been taking with all of it's other station, it will die a quick death soon.

Ah, another "radio is dying" post. It's fun that they all seem totally devoid of facts, too.

These posts claiming to announce radio's death are more than a little exaggerated. Here is an example: the average listening to FM in Los Angeles in 1998 (pre-iPod, pre-Satellite, pre-cheap and accessable high speed internet, etc.) was 1,167,400 persons. In Spring 2008 it was 1,085,900 persons. That's 11.5% of the universe in 1998, and 10.0% in 2008, with "today" having tons more competition and alternatives. Now, the near-dead AM band is different... there is a loss of 20% in listening as a percentage of all persons 12+. So it's AM, not FM that is responsible for most of the losses and those for FM are remarkably small despite all the alternatives.

Hardly dead.

I do agree to an extent about a Rhythmic A/C coming into Miami. There are certainly a lot of freestyle classics that are "resident" to Florida (Nice N' Wild, Sequal, etc.) that should get some exposure. And if this was ANY other market (thinking smaller or those without as strong of a dance music history) then this would be okay.

But at the same time...THIS IS SOUTH FLORIDA!!! :) People are totally up on current dance music! South Beach is America's "Ibiza!" While this is a start.....a station similar to a Party 93.1 is what people are craving for! And not just the one or two! LOL.
