Low Cost/Free Automation Software

I just checked it out, and my playout computer's too out of date to run it as is.

I'll have to trial it on my other computer, which is new enough, before I decide if it's worth upgrading or not.

Ha! I actually forgot this was my thread LOL!

Exactly.

Ooo, and it's free! I'm gonna check it out!

The free version ought to be plenty for me. I'm not trying to sound big market.

I think you’ll be happy with playoutone standard for free. there’s a fairly decent user support base on facebook.

We have considered spinning up a standard version to escape an issue with another automation system we have

I hope so.

I'm spinning up a Windows 10 virtual machine for testing as I type.

If I end up liking it, I may have to buy a newer computer to run it on (my current computer is 6th-gen Intel based; PlayoutONE says it requires 8th-gen, so we'll see).

Okay...

I got my Windows 10 VM up and running, and I got PlayoutONE installed and running in it.

Now comes the fun/interesting part: learning how to use it!

I'm liking it so far, but it's quite different than PlayIt, so it's going to be awhile before I feel confident enough to fully transition, I think.

If anyone has any pointers or advice on usage and/or configuration that they'd be willing to share, please don't hesitate to send me a DM!

Update:

I haven't done much with PlayoutONE lately, because my other setup was breaking and I needed to fix it.

I finally broke down and upgraded it to Windows 10, which was a long and arduous process compared to installing 7, and now it's working again.

Interestingly, though, PlayIt Live actually feels noticeably faster and more stable, and so far there have been fewer, if any dropouts in the audio. Perhaps it's optimized for 10 somehow, or maybe 10, despite all the bloat, is actually more efficient than 7?

I will note that PlayIt appears to be 32-bit. Why, in this day and age, would something like that not be 64-bit unless it's very old? This could possibly explain why it runs so slowly despite throwing 32 GB of RAM at it (without special tricks, 32-bit apps can only address a maximum of 2 GB).
