Hey there, I'm the program director of LRN.FM - the Liberty Radio Network. LRN.FM features the best liberty-oriented audio on the internet including both live and recorded programming. See our program guide here: http://Shows.LRN.FM

You can pull our feed from our high quality 64k mono stream or grab us on our brand new Ku-band Free-to-Air satellite channel. Satellite coordinates available at http://Sat.LRN.FM
Technical note - The Ku-band feed is currently being fed via our public internet feed. I will be ordering a piece of hardware to dedicate a low delay feed directly to the uplink facility, but the hardware (Barix Extreamer 500) won't be available until August. Once I get that in the satellite feed will be near-realtime and I'll update this thread.

Take as much or as little of our programming as you prefer. Run 24/7 if you like. If you do pick up some or all of our programming, please just give me a heads up so I can list your station on our radio affiliates page. Also, if you pull the programming or go off-the-air, I'd appreciate a heads up so as to keep our list up-to-date.

I guess it might be a matter of who complains and how loudly, but what are the rules regarding adult content on part 15 stations?

He's probably afraid of fines and jailtime. They'd likely threaten that.

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard the FCC has never pursued collecting unpaid fines for pirate operators, as they are afraid of having the issue being taken to court on free speech grounds and possibly overturning their whole regulatory scheme.

They likely rely on intimidation to get people to pony up.

As promised, the satellite latency has been reduced to approximately 20 seconds.

I'm just curious how the satellite uplink receives its feed? Is it a direct studio link, public internet stream, or even something completely different? Thanks!
 
Internet stream just for the uplink, originated from a Barix 500 in the LRN.FM studio.
 
The last post was several months ago, but I am interested to know, if the satellite feed is from the Internet signal, do those 25 Hz tones translate well over the Internet?

I have heard that 25 and 35 Hz tones don't fare well over the Internet. This also begs the question are the tones just copies, or are they the preferred "relay switch" tones?

Please let me know how well this works and by what method it is done. I wouldn't mind offering some type of show over the Internet, but I can't see using "relay switch" tones.

Maybe those DTMF tones would be better. ;-)

Thanks for your interest. The satellite is currently being fed by a 128kbps Barix shoutcast stream just for the uplink provider.

I'm not sure why a tone wouldn't fare well on the internet, most codecs have no issues encoding lower frequencies. I added tones for an internet-receiving station, per his request. They work for him, but I don't know what he's using to detect them.

They are just tones I generated and saved as .WAV files - there are no relays involved. It's pretty basic.
 
FYI - the high bandwidth stream at http://high.lrn.fm is now very low delay - just about two seconds.

We're also now encoding with Omnia AX/E software for maximum audio impact.

I looked at the lrn site. Is that High Speed line the 64 k? Is that good enough for having nearly instantaneous (two seconds delay) internet speed?

It is a 64k stream, yes. Delay varies based on your internet connection and player, but is usually no more than 3-30 seconds. My winamp plays it back with 2-3 seconds delay from live while my phone delays it 30 seconds.

I'm renewing our Free-to-Air satellite feed for another three years.

Anyone out there using it? Sure would be nice to know about!
 
I might, if you can help me:

I'm interested in getting an FTA system to listen to LRN, but I don't know where to buy one. It seems there are many reports of dealers that substitute ordered parts, sell imitation brands of receivers, etc. I don't want to be stuck with equipment that breaks down after a few weeks of use. Can you suggest some reputable dealers of FTA equipment?
