Lynn West out as PD of WXBM (Nash 102.7)

With Cumulus' takeover of WXBM and WMEZ from Pamal, many of us predicted changes would be coming. Last week it was announced long time program director Lynn West was let go from her posiiton as program director. I no longer live in the Pensacola area so I heard this from a credible source, and I checked the station's website and she is no longer listed on there. Wow, they take over in 2012 and immediately cut two long-term DJ's (Dave Collins & Stacey Noles who did evenings and overnights) in favor of syndicated programs, then they rebrand the station to Nash-FM and move Marty and Lindsey Marie to afternoons while putting a syndicated morning show in their place. Now Lynn West is gone and I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan Andrew, Marty, and Lindsey won't soon meet the same fate. It would not surprise me at all if the station elimited all local people and put syndicated shows in all day parts. From what I can tell, it seems the station started it's decline when Linda Lawrence left, and I think that was before Cumulus had taken over. I think this is probably the beginning of the end for WXBM, as sad as I hate to admit that.

It used to be a truly local station. I worked there back in the 90's and remember when great pride was taken into making that station what it eventually became. It really was one of the last few local stations, and I bet Cat Country is eating that up now. I just wonder what other surprises Cumulus has in store? Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Good luck to Lynn, I know she won't have any trouble finding a new job!

Stacey Noles is still there doing morning fill ins (as of last week.) When all is said and done, the only live shifts on the large corporate country (and CHR) stations will be middays, and or afternoons (according to format). CC just added a syndicated night show for CHR. This is a excellent opportunity for stations like Cat Country. Small and medium market stations will reap the benefits of this cost cutting measure. There will also be fewer ad sellers in the market. I would use the live, local, and community (I do) to their advantage.

This is a huge gift to Cat Country, no doubt. I wonder if they got rid of some engineering talent as well. Ever since the flip to Nash, the RDS has been off. And Jet is STILL broadcasing in mono, even through the HD feed. Crap sound quality seems to be par for the course on the coast. WDLT and WRRX both seem to sound worse now, especially during syndicated programming.

Of course none of those compare to Sunny 105.7, whose sound quality is reminiscent of Radio Havana shortwave broadcasts. I would probably listen to them regularly because of their diverse music and local to me emphasis if it didn't make every radio I own sound like Real Audio circa 1994 dial-up.

Cat Country has done a excellent job in serving the community.
Time will tell if the changes will impact ratings. The shift of the WXBM morning show from mornings to afternoons may be a positive. Afternoon numbers in some markets actually trend better than mornings. We will see if that is the case in Pensacola.

As far as sound, nothing in the Mobile Pensacola market sounds great. It is squashed, over modulated, and distorted. Everyone has cranked up the modulation wars.
