Well it seems that Clear Channel is making changes to 2 of their local stations here. First, when KUYL-1280 changed its calls to KWSX, I didn't think anything major was going to happen to this station. I now maybe wrong. I now hear that they will drop Religious and return to their simulcast of Modesto's NEWSTALK KFIV-1360. 1280 has done this before, from 1996-99(as "THE POWER STATIONS: POWER TALK 1360 and POWER TALK 1280" and a brief stint between their oldies format(KOOL 1280) and their current Religious Format(AM 1280 THE LIGHTHOUSE) from Sept. 28,2001 to Jan. 14, 2002.Will the "Third Times The Charm" help this station? I highly doubt it. The other Clear Channel Change is the rumored switch of KMRQ-NEW ROCK 96.7 to Spanish "LA PRECIOSA". Can this market support another Spanish Station? Probably so, But what about the ROCK listeners? There has been many ROCK Stations here over the years. Like KSRT-EARTHRADIO 101(100.9 FM) from Tracy from 1976-81.Or KFIV-ROCK 102/HOT ROCK 102(102.3) from Modesto from 1981-86. Or KORY/KROI-96.7 simulcast of Sacramento's KROY-96.9 in 1984 so briefly when they were owned by Jonsson Communications. Or The legendary KDJK-95.1 from Oakdale which was the best programmed AOR Station in our area with the most eclectic range of programming from 1985-94. And then it was Citadel's KHOP-ROCK 104(104.1)from 1992-96) which single handedly killed KDJK as an AOR Station then in 1996, Citadel purchased KDJK-95.1(which at that time evolved into an Alternative Rock Station) moved the AOR format (which actually evolved itself to Active Rock) to 95.1 and became "ROCK 95" until 2000 when it switched to the ill conceived 80's format "PLANET 95". and finally there is "NEW ROCK 96.7" which actually started as "ROCK 96.7" but added the "NEW" to it earlier this year. If 96.7 goes Spanish, Will another Station switch to "ROCK" and fill the void as the Modesto Stockton area has a rich ROCK RADIO History!
