Mamma "MIA!": WLVE/Miami becomes KTU-Clone "93.9 The MIA!"

Yes folks, Clear Channel has pulled the plug on what was Smooth Jazz "Love 94" and replaced it with a Dance-friendly Rhythmic AC format patterned after sister station WKTU/NYC and judging from what they are playing it seems to be favoring Rhythmic Pop and some Dance currents.

It's weird that they kept referring to 93.9 as Love 94 when they were playing Christmas music for a month, only to flip its format December 26th. It was Miami's only Christmas station (West Palm Beach's 104.3 is weak), so it would have been near the top of the ratings. Hopefully they have good mixshows like their sister 93.3 FLZ.

Miami is the one market that NEEDS a dance/rhythmic station like a Florida version of a Pulse 87. If I didn't think Miami could do well with it, then I would applaud this station down on my hands and knees. But Miami is one of the very few markets in the US that KNOWS better!

Miami is the one market that NEEDS a dance/rhythmic station like a Florida version of a Pulse 87. If I didn't think Miami could do well with it, then I would applaud this station down on my hands and knees. But Miami is one of the very few markets in the US that KNOWS better!

i thought YOU would be applauding a new dance/rhythmic station - give this one a chance.... :-\

Honestly this station sucks both as a Rhythmic AC, and especially as a Dance station. Doesnt sound very Miami, and there's too much late 70s/early 80s Gold. Miami already had a Jammin Oldies station a decade ago on 103.5, and it failed.

I'm actually down here in Florida (am heading home in a couple of hours). It's really another "KTU". I mean, I won't knock it for all intents and purposes, it is something.....but for the "brand" of dance music I've been pushing and endorsing, it's not enough. And for a market that is South Florida, people know of current dance. If this was a smaller market that didn't have much of a dance following, I'd applaud it to a certain extent. But in this case, it's just more of the same. Those over 30 may like it, especially women. But I still feel more can be done and hopefully...it will be. Just gotta get out of this rough economy first.

and you STILL should be applauding it - it's a small start for the "Tony Santiago" brand of dance music, but it's STILL a start - give it a chance... 8)
