Mark Simone, King of New York Talk Radio?

... it's one-way communication.

That's also one of radio's strengths. Sure there are times you want to interact and participate. But other times you want to relax and simply be entertained -- maybe close your eyes, or have them fixed on the road or some other activity.

Radio needs to capitalize on it's strengths ... not try to be something it's not. That's the point. Focus on entertainment ... not everything else. Loss of focus is what sinks many businesses.

That's horse & buggy thinking. Reminds me of Phil Spector insisting that we should all go Back To Mono.

If the focus is on entertainment, there's no need to restrict oneself to a single platform. Real entertainers understand that what they do can translate to anything. Garrison Keillor is a great example. He can take what he does on the radio, and turn it into a Broadway musical.

The lack of video is, in my opinion, the greatest challenge to radio.

Go anywhere and you'll see it:The Smartphone and Tablet. Everyday I see people looking at these devices as they stream video. Even in the subways with no internet they view stored files.

As recently as 3-4 years ago these same people would be listening to MP3's and a little further back it was radio.

Even in our restaurants people often ignore the TV's and jukeboxes in favor of their own custom media.

An aural-only medium faces a diminished future.

I have listened to Simone since the 1970s and continued to listen to him religiously on 710WOR NY; if I missed a show I listened to the podcast.

Imagine my surprise, disgust and dismay to discover that he BLOCKED me on his Twitter account without any reason. What an utter betrayal!

I’ve never posted anything negative re him or the show. If wants to block me; he should at least provide an explanation. He behaved like the ultra left fascists he purports to despise.

Media personalities should not have the right of taking away the public’s constitutional rights to be heard as they are in the public sphere and use the public airwaves.

I can tell you that he will have lost a loyal listener.

FYI there is no "constitutional right to be heard." You can speak, but that doesn't mean people have to listen. If you have kids, you know what I mean.

However, there was a Supreme Court decision recently that said the president can't block people on his POTUS site, because he's a public employee. But he can block people on his personal site.

Simone is my overall favorite radio show, however, I think he’s somewhat insecure and short-tempered and can be testy and even nasty to listeners who disagree with him or simply annoy him. Of course, he’s much more tolerant with celebrities and those in his elite circle. Don’t take his behavior personally.

Simone used to yell at callers and would often interrupt them before they finished the first sentence. I assume that was because he was impatient and knew what they were about to say, but the audience didn't so it was irritating.

I haven't heard Mark do that for some time. He's generally respectful to callers yet isn't shy about making fun of some, but not in a mean way. His interaction with caller "Vincent" is always priceless.

The show is great, even better when Joe Bartlett is there.
