Markets airing Wheel of Fortune on one station and Jeopardy! on another station

Do any other markets air Wheel of Fortune on one station and Jeopardy! on another station? Like a few examples in Dayton, Ohio Jeopardy! airs on WDTN 2 (NBC) and Wheel airs on WHIO 7 (CBS). In Memphis, Tennessee, Wheel of Fortune airs on WMC 5 (NBC) and Jeopardy! airs on WREG 3 (CBS). And in Nashville, Tennessee Wheel airs on WKRN 2 (ABC) and I've heard Jeopardy! airs on a MNT affiliate in Nashville.

The ones used to air Wheel on one station and Jeopardy! on another in a single market was in Charlotte, North Carolina Wheel was aired on WSOC 9 (ABC) and Jeopardy! on WCNC 36 (NBC). The latter station airs both shows. In Washington, DC Jeopardy! aired on WJLA 7 (ABC) while Wheel aired on WUSA 9 (CBS) until the early 1990s I think. WJLA airs both Wheel and Jeopardy!. And don't forget in NYC before September 1990, WABC 7 carried Jeopardy! while WCBS 2 carried Wheel. Today, Wheel and Jeopardy! is seen on WABC (so as other ABC O&O's KABC, WLS, KGO, KFSN, WPVI, and WTVD).
 
Huntsville/Decatur, Alabama: Beginning in September 2010, Jeopardy! began airing at 6 p.m. (CT) on ABC affil WAAY, after running 26 years on NBC affil WAFF, most of those years in daytime slots (the most recent was 12:30 p.m.). Meanwhile, Wheel remains, as it has for years, on WAFF at 6:30 p.m.

WAAY acquired J! from CBS Distribution as counter-programming against the dominant local newscasts on WAFF and CBS station WHNT. This was a desperation move of sorts, gambling on the highly-educated local population's affinity for the famed quiz as an alternative to a deep-third-place newscast. Meanwhile, at 6:30 on WAFF, Wheel ran away with the Nielsens, as elsewhere in the country, for ages. However, these days it faces Entertainment Tonight on WAAY, and just a couple of months ago, WHNT expanded its 6 p.m. newscast to a full hour. The fate of Wheel on WAFF might be therefore in question--the show is generally reputed to be primarily a fave of older audiences, as is well known.

Like a lot of Central Time Zone markets, double Prime Time Access between the full hour of 6 and 7 is something unusual. It could be a trend, though, for stations with third-place newscasts at 6 to consider a less-costly syndicated offering.
 
I could be wrong....but I thought that by now, ALL affiliates of Wheel & J! were one and the same, because I thought there were "cross promotions" on one show for the other. It sure would be odd if the separated-stations ran the promos----I suppose they do not run them, then.

Twin Cities: J! on KARE-11 (NBC) at 4:30 and Wheel on WCCO-4 (CBS) at 6:30. I'm pretty sure that a few years ago, one of those stations (I don't remember which) aired J! during the wee hours at 1:30 AM. I'm guessing it would have been WCCO because they had no room for it on their regular daytime schedule. WCCO is a CBS O&O, and the only 2 other CBS O&Os that air both shows are WBZ-4 in Boston, and KTVT-11 in Dallas, neither of which are the original homes for these shows.

Wheel and J! aired in Boston on WNEV-7 (which later became WHDH) for years and years. In 2001, they sold the rights to CBS Boston, and they decided to put both of those shows on WSBK-38 when it was a UPN affiliate, and later became independent. They seemed kind of out of place there, because it'd be also interesting to note which markets air these shows on a non-major network. In the fall of 2009, both shows moved to WBZ. The only problem is that during football season, they air a locally produced show on Friday nights called Patriots All Access. During the football season, both shows are aired on Saturday morning at 1:37 and 2:07.

In Dallas, Wheel and J! aired on WFAA-8 (ABC) since I believe the beginning. And then in 2005, they moved to KTVT because I think WFAA wanted to put on shows geared toward a younger audience. Since then, KTVT has aired Wheel at 6:30 and J! at.........COME ON!!!!!!! 11 AM?!?!?!?!!! I really don't think these shows are good for CBS O&Os.
 
I keep thinking that KTVT put "Jeopardy!" at 11 AM for
one of two reasons: most likely, as a bridge between
"The Price Is Right" and "The Young And The Restless"
(it's one of the few stations that airs the soap at 11:30
(CT)); less likely, that was the old network slot on NBC
and maybe it would stir up a few memories (I have heard
of stations showing reruns of last year's shows at noon ET).
"Jeopardy!" probably had a better timeslot (3 PM) on WFAA.

Are they still on different stations in Nashville and Dayton?
 
Meanwhile, Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy! have been aired by WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 of New Haven as long as I can remember. I've never seen them on any other station here (not counting when Wheel Of Fortune was on NBC).
 
I think I discovered this when I visited Wisconsin in 1995. However, in the Quad Cities where I come from, 'Jeopardy' and 'Wheel Of Fortune' has always aired on KWQC since they signed on in the 1980s, although WHBF did air Daytime 'Wheel' during it's CBS run...
 
In Los Angeles, Jeopardy! originally aired on KCBS during its first season, and the following year, J! joined Wheel on KCOP, where they ran together for four years. KCBS re-acquired Jeopardy! by fall 1989, bringing Wheel with them from KCOP (just mere months after the daytime Wheel moved from NBC to CBS). Of course since 1992, both shows are on KABC. One minor difference, however, during their stints on KCOP and later on KCBS, J! aired after Wheel.

A pretty similar situation in my hometown of Rockford, where WIFR originally had Jeopardy! (afternoons before the 5pm news), while WTVO had Wheel of Fortune in its customary 6:30pm slot. I believe it was a year or two later when J! moved to WTVO. Being in the Central time zone, it was pretty commonplace to see Jeopardy! air somewhere between 3:30pm and 5pm, because of the local newscasts at 6pm on the affiliates. WLS has had Jeopardy! at 3:30pm since the beginning, as well as Wheel being at 6:30pm since the syndicated version debuted.

Yep.

WCCO had a game show block from 3-5pm for most of the 80s, and Jeopardy joined that block when it premiered. Eventually, the 3-5 block became Sally and Oprah, leaving Jeopardy out in the cold for several years in the 90s until KARE picked it up.
 
Omaha, Nebraska has had Jeopardy! and Wheel on separate stations for most of their nearly 30-year syndicated run.

(Both shows actually aired against each other for nearly two years)

Channel 6 in Orlando already had "Wheel" and could have had "Jeopardy!",
but the station was airing "PM Magazine" at 7 PM and refused to cancel it.
Then-syndicator King World tried to get it on in the late afternoon; no dice,
since at the time the station dominated with "Happy Days" at 4, "Three's
Company" at 4:30, and "M*A*S*H" at 5, leading into its 5:30 newscast.
Last resort: how about in the morning? Sorry, Donahue was on at 9, and
"Hour Magazine" at 10, leading into "The Price Is Right" at 11. Fine, said
the King brothers, if you won't take them both you won't get either one.
Both "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" ended up on Channel 9 and have been there
ever since.

In Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point "Wheel" aired on WFMY and
"Jeopardy!" on WXII for a couple of years (1992-94); WFMY was airing
"Wheel" at 7 and "Family Feud" at 7:30, so WXII put "Jeopardy!" at 7:30.
Since 1994 both "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" have been on WFMY at 7 and
7:30, respectively, and most mornings (unless they schedule an infomercial),
WFMY carries a rerun of "Jeopardy!" at 10:30.

WCBS/New York had aired "Wheel" for about a year or so at 7:30 PM; WABC, which now has both "Jeopardy" and "Wheel", had aired "Entertainment Tonight" at 7:30 PM opposite "Wheel" on WCBS, IIRC.
 
In Tampa Bay, for its first year (1984-1985), Jeopardy aired on WXFL (WFLA), whiled Wheel aired on WTSP (which had the show since 1983). In Fall 1985, Jeopardy moved to WTSP; since then, both shows always aired on one station -- WTSP, then WFLA for a few years, then back to WTSP, and currently on WFTS and WWSB, with the shows moving back to WTSP in Fall 2012.

Actually, bpatrick, I know that on WCPX they decided to air rituals instead in the late afternoon. As well as Three's Company and WKRP in Cincinnati and at 11:30 Taxi reruns. I know because I have a 1984 Fall Preview TV Guide. J! aired for one season on WFTV just before the $100,000 Name That Tune with Jim Lange and then Bill Cullen's Joker's Wild and then in the fall of 1985 WOF moved to WFTV to join J!

But anyway, WAGA aired J! when it first started while WXIA 11 aired WOF. I think in the fall of 1986 J! moved to WXIA to join WOF. Then both J! and WOF moved to WAGA and then went back to WXIA now they are on WXIA's sister station WATL. Also what all was on WCCO TV?
 
I am talking about on the Game Show Block that is. on WCCO.

Thanks for the correction re Orlando; I didn't remember Channel 6 carrying "Rituals" (big mistake--there's never been a successful syndicated soap--I don't count "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" since that was more of a satire of a soap, although played straight). I do remember Channel 9 carrying "Joker's Wild" (I think "Tic Tac Dough" was on Channel 2).

And in Atlanta, yes, "Jeopardy!" started on Channel 5 as a late-afternoon show, while "Wheel" aired on Channel 11 at 7:30.
When 11 first got them both, they didn't run them in tandem, since "NBC Nightly News" was still on 11 at 7 PM. 11 was also one of the first stations in the country to show "Wheel" reruns on Saturdays.

Oh boy.... this is foggy memories

At one point ( 1985-1987) it was ...

3-New Newlywed Game
3:30-New Dating Game
4-Jeopardy!
4:30--Price is Right (85-86)

1988-89 was...

3- Hollywood Squares
3:30 - Family Feud
4 -- Oprah

When nighttime Wheel premiered, it ran at 3:30 since PM Magazine was still in business at 6:30.


I'm sure I'll wake up about 3 in the morning with a few more schedules ;D
