Thought it was worth mentioning on the July 22nd Morning Show on Q105 will be a Q-Zoo reunion. Cleveland Wheeler and Scott Shannon will be on. As well as Arch Deal from WFLA Channle 8 amongst others. Sounds pretty cool to me.
That Morning Show Tribute should be interesting.
As I understand, Mason and Cleveland did not get along.
Perhaps enough time has passed so that they can bury the hatchet.
I guess if you were a kid when Q105 was the top CHR station, it might mean something. For me, many the great voices of my youth are gone like Ron Lundy, Clark Race, Jim Stagg, Jim Runyon, Robert W.Morgan, The Real Don Steele, B.Mitchell Reid, and Dino on the Radio
I was a kid in the Q105 glory days, but I agree this is less than spectacular. The reunion basically consists of the news guy, the traffic guy, the morning show producer, and the overnight guy. How about Cleveland? How about Terrance McKeever, Jon Rock & Roll Anthony, Brian Christopher? How about the '70s staff? Uncle Johnny? Tim Davisson? No offense to those who will be included but this is a little lame.

It does look a bit lame but I'll listen (via the internet). Perhaps Mason will add some people before the 22nd.
I wonder whatever happened to Dave Saint? Anybody know?
Let's add Dave Mann, Kathy 'Wild' West, Bill Garcia just to name a few. I was also a kid back in their heyday and look forward to anything to break the monotony. ;D
I tried listening again..I got over the saturation bombing of 1 800 ask gary, the uber-cheesy and annoying "live" drop ins.....and theyre cutting even the single versions of hits...ELO's Evil Woman without the bridge? and why did "How Long" by Ace sound speeded up?
Stop screwing with the music, much less whats left of your audience or change your calls to K-TEL...because your playlist is coming across like the way KTEL used to squash 22 songs on an LP...
They are now playing 4 80's cuts an hour and it isn't all soulless white bread stuff WPOI played. How can one do 80's without Hall &Oates, but I never heard them on WPOI. In a city where Cox owns 6 stations------Q105 is brimming with personality and variety. At least to my old ears. :

I completely agree...at one point about 2 years ago before the switch to true "classic hits", Q105 seemed stuck in the early 70s. Rarely would they play any 80s at that time...but...
As of now they are playing a nice variety of the most popular early to mid 80s "hits". Where else will you hear Hall and Oates? Pointer Sisters...AND the Beatles, Eagles and KC and the Sunshine Band on ONE radio station?
The only other station that comes to mind is WWRZ (Max 98.3) but they are in the Winterhaven/Lakeland market (thank God they come in on most radios here in Tampa, be it in mono or stereo).
As Ms.MusicRadio mentioned, WPOI never (why?) played the true 80s fun pop songs while they had their chance.
Now, if only Q105 would just widen their 80s playlist just a wee bit more... :
I know Sunny 105.9 (WOCL) in Orlando has been playing a lot of 80's. Heard "Rainin' Men" by the Weather Girls on there. As well as many other 80's songs 101-5 The Pointless would not play. How bout Donna Summer, The B-52's. Micheal Jackson, The Bee-Gees, The Bangles, Madonna, Hell even The Cars. Sunny FM has a well-rounded 80's playlist playing music from all the decade.
I like Q105 but expanding the 80's playlist to something of a Sunny FM will be nice. However the Q is getting there. I do like what I'm hearing.
BTW, which station in Tampa will benefit the most from the loss of WPOI. I suspect Q105. Maybe WXGL or heck even stations from other markets. WWRZ could have a ratings benefit. WOCL can be picked up in portions of Hernando, Pasco and far NE Hillsbourgh. A weak signal howver can still be heard just fine on a Good Car Radio. (Especially the ones loaded with new veichles these days. Super Sensitive)

Very true on all the above. Yet why is Night Train Lane included? If it was a real Q-Zoo tribute, this would also include Jack Harris, Jim Reheile, Shauna Stevens, Mike Elliot, Kent Voss, and Bo Reynolds. Then again the average radio listener probably doesn't remember that all of the above hosted or co-hosted the Q-Zoo at one time or another.
Steve Cheney was the Q105 Production Director and produced many of the 'bits' for the Q-Zoo.
Steve lives in the Tampa Bay area. He should be included too.
Cleveland Wheeler created the Q-Zoo ... Not Cleveland Wheeler and Scott Shannon.
Scott entered the picture after the Q-Zoo was up and running.
Without Cleveland, it's not a Q-Zoo tribute. Period.
