Match Game, What's My Line and Classic To Tell The Truth Gone from GSN

Looks like Spring is bringing changes to GSN. My Tivo no longer shows these shows upcoming for taping. We now have The 25,000 Pyramid and color Password showing overnight. I got to see the first ever Family Feud with Richard Dawson last night and the first ever color Password where they announce they are now in color for the first time. Brian Keith's Family Affair was debuting that evening according to what Alan Ludden said. Well at least GSN put some decent replacements but I will miss What's My Line?.

I almost fainted when I first read the title of this thread. Match Game has NOT been taken off GSN. Looks like the other two have. I'm a little disappointed to see What's My Line? get the axe (for now, at least), but thank goodness my favorite show is still on. I doubt they'll ever take it off because it's supposedly the highest-rated show on that network.

According to their site, it's regular Match Game at 9 am and Match Game PM at 9:30. (Of course, with the TV Guide data on my DVR being as worthless as ever, it doesn't show the PM version...mistakenly listing it as the regular edition.)

Sorry radioguy555. My Tivo wasn't turning up Match Game for search results. I just assumed it had been pulled. Thanks for the heads up that it is on earlier.

Until GSN starts What's My Line and To Tell The Truth, the old Black & White Overnight, I won't watch GSN.

I DVRed WML & TTTT every night. My favorite thing is during WML not watch the name of the Mystery Guest and try to recognize the star. A few weeks ago they replayed Eartha Kitt, who recently died, and she looked beautiful.

In 3 years when they bring back the B&W games shows, I'll tune in. But until then, GSN is off of my Favorites list.

Sadly, there's just not enough demand to split the station into two.
1)the GSN classic channel, and 2) regular GSN.

If so, I bet there'd be alot more BW programming available to watch.

GSN is going to crap......

Price is right was taken off years ago...... They are putting more and more of todays garbage on there :(

If they split GSN into 2 channels, here's what would happen: GSN 2 would be great, lots of b&w faves. One year later, the poker shows and the "Burt Luddin's Love Buffet" type shows will creep into GSN 2, and before you know it, another GSN clone. Look at MTV2 and VH1 Classic for example!

It's funny how the FCC doesn't prevent that from being true.

In Canada, the CRTC forces companies to deliver a "Promise of performance" in order to obtain and maintain a television broadcast licence.

I have an interesting example, but it's not game show related.

It's a tv station in Canada that just decided to make changes in ways the CRTC doesn't seem pleased with:

"In a letter dated 28 May 2008, Commission staff directed the CBC to demonstrate, by no later than six months from the date of the letter, that it had taken the necessary measures to ensure that the program schedule of Country Canada, now known as bold, complies with the requirement that the overall programming broadcast on the service "provide information, interaction and entertainment from a rural perspective.""

and

"However, Commission staff requested clarification on how this new programming format was consistent with the nature of service condition of licence regarding the provision of programming for rural Canadian families from a rural perspective."

You're lucky you even got a chance to see the shows.

Before Comcast shifted GSN to digital here, they would switch off GSN at midnight and show used car commercials until noon.

And maybe that's the problem.

Do you really want Washington, cesspool that it is, telling businesses what they can't run on TV now? I prefer voting with my remote control, and letting everyone else do the same. If what I like is something that works out to be a viable business, great. If not...so be it. But the red tape and special interests involved in telling businesses they can change 1 or two shows on their channel (the one THEY invested in), but not, say, three because that would violate some theoretical public interest (and one that changes with the political winds every time there's a change in who's got the most power in DC)? No thanks.

That suggests that the real problem is that the FCC is too loose and the CRTC is too tight.

This also makes it *look* like anyone in the States can just up and launch a tv station. The FCC will gladly say "here you go...here's a licence".

So if you want black and white game show tv, just request a licence to do so, and you're all set! FCC will just say "Ok...here's you're licence!"

Unlike Canada where it is almost impossible to get a broadcast licence for anything today.

Mr. Yez,
CABLE TV (like GSN) requires NO license. It comes to your cable head end on satellite and to your home on a wire. There is unlimited space.

On the other hand, broadcast TV IS regulated by the fcc. It comes through the air to your tv and there are only so many channels.

WGN America and WTBS need a license for their "local" signal in Chicago on ch 9 and Atlanta on ch 17 - but NOT for what the put on cable.

As pointed out, the issue was cable, and no license is required. That aside, the FCC being "too loose?" That's actually funny. Kevin Martin and Michael Powell were hardly too loose. If anything, the FCC is too involved in issues it doesn't need to be. Just handle the license and technical concerns of broadcasters in a limited spectrum and save all of us taxpayers some money by ditching a good portion of the rest of their nonsense.

As I was more/less saying, anyone then, in the states can just launch anything freely, but in Canada you need a broadcast licence.

Like these guys had to get: http://www.igametv.com/about/

No licence, and it's an illegal broadcast. PERIOD! (in Canada)

It's also almost impossible to get a broadcast licence in Canada.

(In Canada, we have both game tv and GSN-I hope it stays that way because I really hate the Sim Sub we have here!)

I stuck with what I wrote back in March: I haven't watched GSN since they took Black and White Overnight off the air.

I was checking out onscreen guide and GSN flashed "I've Got A Secret" at 1:30 AM. I wasn't sure if it was new or the classic with host Garry Moore. I DVRed and watched it. The actual program was Password. It's the classic version in black & white with a very young and dashing Allen Ludden. I'm not a big fan of Password but I'll watch it every day just to see who the celebrities are.

I wish they would bring back the 50-60's What's My Line (my favorite game) and To Tell The Truth.

To not to go off topic,FCC ,DUPC, should look into price gouging on cable companies because its getting out of hand and out of control.,especially for all the channels you never tune in.all these rights fees for each channel are getting carried away forcing the rates to the sky.
