Match Game, What's My Line and Classic To Tell The Truth Gone from GSN

Something needs to be done. Comcast is going up on February 1st. They claim their operating expences have gone up. I call - BULL. Because they laid off hundreds of workers in this area.

Someone should do an audit of some sort!
Cable rates in Canada (Niagra falls/Toronto area) are pretty high too!

I wish there could be a match game 2010!
THAT would be very good!

GSN seems to play with us black-and-white fans. They surely don't worry much about the ratings for what airs at 3:30am but they always seem to be tampering with it.

In the past, when they've rotated through 17 years of What's My Line shows, they give the series a rest and show something else in that 3:30am slot: Beat The Clock, To Tell The Truth, I've Got A Secret or Password. Currently Password, both black-and-white and color versions, have been showing at 3:30am... but only those hosted by Alan Ludden. More modern versions were airing for awhile (Super Password) in the daytim

Hey, some years ago the entire hour at 4am was called "Late Night Black And White" and two of three shows (WML, TTTT or IGAS) would air in that hour seven nights a week. Then a few years ago, that hour was handed over to infomercials and black-and-white shows would air at 3:30am, and occasionally at 3am. Now even that slot is not reliable for black-and-white game shows.

Unfortunately, I'm sure GSN has stats to show young people won't watch black and white shows anymore. Over the last few years I Love Lucy, Perry Mason, The Munsters and other b/w shows have disappeared from TV station line ups and even from the cable networks that used to show them. NBC shows "It's A Wonderful Life" on Xmas Eve and that's about it for any major TV station showing b/w programming.

On one hand we may say to GSN can't you leave 3:30 - 4am alone? How much money do you lose running a b/w show in that one very-late time slot? But I suppose GSN would counter saying at least they do it sometimes. What other cable station (other than TCM) shows b/w programming on any regular basis anymore? (Yes, TV Land does do a few Lucy's and Andy Griffith's but that's it.)

You think GSN will ever air reruns of Match Game '98?

Doubtful. The 1990 version only had a brief run on GSN; there wouldn't seem to be much value in the even less successful 1998 version.

I wrote back in January that I DVR classic Password every weekday. These aired back in the mid-sixties and were in black and white. One of the guests was Angie Dickinson, who looked beautiful.

Suddenly last week, GSN switched to Card Sharks at that time period. After a few days, I stopped taping.

Yet again, I won't watch GSN until they bring back black and white game shows.

Note: there is a topic in Classic TV board, but felt this deserves to be recognized here.

Keeping my word, I didn't watch GSN. However, as I was browsing the guide channel I noticed What's My Line and I've Got a Secret. I DVRed and GSN has brought both back. WML is my favorite old show and still don't watch when the mystery guest comes out, to see if I can recognize them without seeing their name. I'm sure GSN will keep Black & White Overnight for a few months and go back to infomercials.

It's a business before it can be anything else.
What's their bread and butter today?
I see it's no longer Lingo & a few others.

They'll have to do something soon or the whole channel will just
collapse.
I used to love watching that channel. The main reason why I don't is because I'm fed up with being billed $3 a month from my cable company to view it! (or $6.99 in a package of channels I never want or watch)
I think I'll just do without and I'm good. Life goes on and we're all just fine.

Sincerely,

Yikr. Die hard game show fan.
(Currently in Toronto Canada, but may also be found in Niagara falls Canada)

Checking my DVR to watch classic What's My Line from the early 60's. None there. Check my cable guide. No Black & White Overnight. Go to GSN website and W.M.L. and I've Got a Secret aren't listed.

Major Thumb Down. As usual, I won't watch GSN until they bring back old Game Shows.
