Matt McCoy of WABB to Q100 Pensacola

According to the Lagniappe newspaper in Mobile, Matt McCoy, formerly of WABB is taking mornings at WJLQ/Pensacola effective Monday morning. Word is that the format may be "spiced up" and that he'll be without former Mobile morning staple Jay Hasting. Any guesses as to who will join him?

Do I smell Pizzati & Jan Jefferies all over this or what? Looks like Cumulus is reloading for Round...what is it now...5..6...? against WABB. Is the new PD of WABB ready to throw down or has he even moved into his office yet?

This could get interesting in hurry if Cumulus has more strong talent coming aboard......

I wouldn't count Gary Pizzati making any sound decisions...he's scum.

WJLQ doesn't really set the world on fire in its home market of Pensacola, much less Mobile. I'll believe another direct challenge to WABB when I hear it.

Speaking of WABB, an observation: 97.5, WXBM, and Soft Rock 94.1 would make an interesting Gulf Coast cluster if Pamal Broadcasting (or another outfit) were ever in buying/selling mood.

Good to have local talent back on Q100 :). Goodbye to morning syndicated programing. listened to about 20 minutes of it one time. That was about all I could take, 6 people trying to share the mic at the same time, banter was boring.

First, I want to say congrats to Matt for jumping back in. He's a good guy and I wish him success. I don't see Q100 making a direct run at WABB. Kraddick never was a good fit on Q100. I think that show was meant as a band-aid until Cumulus had a better opportunity in that slot. No Alex, Kraddick isn't going to WABB. Don't soil yourself. There is no reason for that show to show up there. Ratings are more than fine, and from what I hear about the Dittman family, they are all about keeping that station local.

What you read in the Lagniappe is probably exceactly what they are gonna do. "spice it up". Maybe dump some of the more AC type 80s, add in the occasional dancier current, and that's about it.

Why?

It will cost too much money for Q100 to go directly at WABB. Between the amount of advertising money out there(it's crap), and the amount of money it would take to do it where it would be effective, it just isn't gonna happen....for now.

I think Jeffries has input on this, but it's from a distance. He's too busy trying to keep KRBE in Houston from getting stomped, programming country in Dallas, etc.

McCoy will help Q100, but he won't overtake WABB. The ratings never really changed after he left and if anything have gone up over time.

All they're trying to do at Q100 is just crarve out a better piece of the pie than what they have now.

It wouldn't surpise me if Pizatti thinks this is the best stategic move ever, but all it will really do is maybe bump that 2 share to a 3, IMO.

My bad radio poy boy!

Well, all what I'm looking is at WABB....not really at Q100! I think Q100 should compete with WABB because, well....i love competition and it will be intersting if WABB will compete with the Q or just be themselves like they have been in the past 1 year.....and that is being a very boring station to listen too.. I HOPE THAT THE NEW PD OF WABB WILL BOOST THE RADIO AIRWAVES IN THE MOBILE-PENSACOLA LISTENING AREA! He starts Monday. I'm curious in what ideas he has in mind for the station, HD Radio? Online Streaming? RDS feature? Programming shuffle? Heck...it might be a long time since we will notice changes.....time will tell.
