Mattapan 96.5 FM( and others ) here they come ! Watch out now !

Have read in past that it was up to U.S. Marshalls to bust them; recently read it was the job of
U.S. Attorneys' office and in both cases it says they had more pressing matters to go after instead.
Of course if a pirate is interfering with an aircraft frequency, or is RIGHT next to a legit station
(say, if someone tried a 98.7 in Boston) they give it more attention. Is there still a 96.3 simulcast of WGBH on? That would be a first adjacent, and 96.5 is a second adjacent to WTKK

The Fort Myers Florida PD did a raid with the FCC recently, I don't know if the FCC tagged along with the locals, or the locals were working for the Feds, but considering the raid was in North Fort Myers, the low rent section of town, it would not surprise me if they were looking for more than radio gear.

Yes, there IS still an authorized signal on 96.3, W242AA...but it is no longer a translator for WGBH-FM 89.7, but of WCRB-FM 99.5. This change happened a month or so ago.

The FCC went to visit 96.5 recently

Mattapan, MA

NOTICE OF UNLICENSED OPERATION

Case Number: EB-10-BS-0029

Document Number: W201032260041

The Boston Office received information that an unlicensed broadcast radio
station on 96.5 MHz was allegedly operating in Mattapan, Massachusetts. On
May 20, 2009, agents from this office confirmed by direction finding
techniques that radio signals on frequency 96.5 MHz were emanating from
your residence in Mattapan, Massachusetts. The Commission's records show
that no license was issued for operation of a broadcast station on 96.5
MHz at this location in Mattapan, Massachusetts

The field strength of the signal on
frequency 96.5 MHz was measured at 275,283 microvolts per meter (uV/m) at
57 meters, which exceeded the maximum permitted level of 250 uV/m at 3
meters for non-licensed devices. Thus, this station is operating in
violation of 47 U.S.C. S: 301.

this is why I keep saying bring back "Star 93.7" or change "93.7 Mike FM" put MIKE FM to the HD2 station, and make 93.7 "Funkytown 93.7" On the weeknights put on some Keith Sweat Hotel on weeknights and weekends put on some Urban AC Syndicated Programming. If you program it the right way, I'm sure it will be sucessfull. Also add a stronger signal inside Boston (as well as the current one they have) that way (everyone in this area of Massachusetts=Both inside and outside Boston) can hear this station. Because currently 93.7 can not be heard on a walkman (any walkman) inside Boston. I assume it's the same if you live or work in those areas (Brookline, Roxbury, Boston University, Northeastern University area, Fenway Park area to name a few) where you can not currently hear 93.7 on a walkman (any walkman)
Anyways, that's my idea. I keep saying, but when I say, everyone always get mad at me.
It's just ideas, nothing to hurt no one
Just make 93.7 "Funkytown 93.7" Put on Keith Sweat on weeknights and some Urban AC Syndicated Programming on weekeneds, I'm sure it will work. I mean, if all these Pirate Radio Stations (Big City 101.3 and Touch 106) can last this long, I'm sure Funkytown 93.7 can last as long.

Ok
Funkytown is currently 93.7 HD2 (which is what Star 93.7 was like, but has no host)

Star 93.7 was simular to W I L D 1090, KISS 108 and Magic 106.7 put together in all three (which is how "Funkytown HD2" is now

I'm just saying, put "Funkytown" on 93.7

If they can't do that, than, change 93.7 to a AC format, but focus on New AC, NEW and Recent Urban AC, New Country Music, and New Soft Dance Music (Like=Waiting For Tonight-by Jennifer Lopez). and have some Urban AC Syndicated Programs on weekends. Do that if they can't put Funkytown back on, so something

you and the star campaign when are you gonna realize there not gonna do it if anything it would be a weei fm simulcast if the sports hub continues t o grow boston will never change infact radio it self is having a hrader time changing formats due to economic times so i think we should save boston radio!!

Mike gets great ratings at minimal cost. They're going to change that? Yes maybe to WEEI simulcast
(would be nice for Sox games, etc.) but otherwise...As for the signal given its proximity to Boston I find it hard to believe you can't pick it up in Boston proper. Maybe on a cheap walkman you may have trouble. Of course I live a couple towns away from the stick and work one town away...and Boston isn't too far from Peabody (93.7 stick)

I did a map search and found it's 18 mi from "Lakeland Park Dr" Peabody to Storrow Dr Boston--driving.
Maybe even less "as the crow flies". Car stereos at least should be able to get a signal like WMKK
in Boston proper. (For ratings click Ratings tab and look up Boston. Fairly good ratings and very
low cost. You want them to change and poss. do worse? Who knows, maybe they'd try it but I
don't know if they'd succeed. They have a broad appeal format and probably sell lots of advertising.
You want them to narrowcast and possibly drop in the ratings?

yeah, I get 93.7 driving around using a car radio (with a good antanna) but if I use a walkman (any) walkman, good and old, MP3 and Regular FM/AM Walkman, I can not get the following stations inside those Boston towns mentioned (92.5, 93.7, 94.5, 97.7, 98.5, 99.1, and 103.3) I can not get those stations inside Boston using a walkman, (any) walkam. My MP3 Player cost (not too cheap, not too expensive) just under One Hundred Twenty Five Dollars, a little over One Hundred Dollars. That MP3 Player has an FM Radio. I also use a Sony FM/Am Walkman that cost just over $40.00 just below $50.00. This Sony Walkan has a DX Switch, Local or DX, I can not get those stations inside Boston. My MP3 Player has no DX Switch. I can not get those stations inside Boston. I used to have a Panasonic FM/AM Walkman. That one cost the same as the Sony Walkman, and also had an DX Switch, same with that one, I can not get those stations inside Boston

I didn't mean to say nothing bad here, ok, if 93.7 can not do that, than, since 92.9 already has an Rock Format/Alternative Rock Format, and their signal comes in excelent inside and outside Boston, since they have that format in Boston, than change 97.7 format to the idea I had, change it to an AC format, but focus on more New Urban AC Music, New AC Music, New Country Music, and New Soft Dance Music. There are many Rock And Roll Stations in Boston. Not Everyone likes Rock And Roll. Boston is a diverse city. Do something, and if 97.7 can't change formats, than have 92.9 change their format to AC (and same idea as I just mentioned), or have Mix 104.1 play more Urban AC music as I just mentioned. Radio Management has to do something. Let's all sit at the round table and talk.

96.5 is straight up Carribbean. So having Star 93.7 back wouldnt help. Well...not unless they played soca, compa and reggae.

By the way, when did 96.5 come on air? I had never heard it before this board.

yeah but still, Star 93.7 were the closest to (W I L D 1090am) Their station was like (Magic 106.7, KISS 108, and W I L D 1090) put together in all three. Which is now how their (Funkytown HD2 is=FUNKYTOWNBOSTON.COM)

Does Funkytown have any live D J's ? If not, Its not the same as Star 93.7. So far, I think HD Radio is a WASTE . I dont know anyone who has a HD radio. R.I.P. Star 93.7.

Northeast Radio Watch is reporting today that the CBC
(Canada) is pulling the plug on HD radio...

No, they are pulling the plug on DAB radio...not HD.

And, if I understand it...the DAB signals were on another entire band.

That's correct. The Canadian DAB is/was on L-band, 1452-1492 MHz.

HD Radio, US-style, has been used only experimentally in Canada.
