McIntyre in the Morning - Who's on first? Who's on at all?

So, I checked in again on KABC this morning and wow, for a show that is called McIntyre in the Morning, McIntyre might as well be in the witness protection program.

What is on is commercials - and lots of 'em. I wasn't looking at the clock but I must have sat through a seven or eight minute commercial break (my favorite being Joe Benson plugging some plastic Easter basket grass that comes in - get this - multiple colors!) And when they're not on, Terrie-Rae is doing news, Skylord is doing traffic, Donoho is doing sports, more commercials - my God! Finally, Mr. Mac shows up and does a five minute interview with the writer from the LA Times covering the Dodger sale, and then - back to Terri Rae, back to Skylord and back to commercials. I listened for nearly 25 minutes between 8:30 and 8:55 and got five minutes of Doug.

No wonder nobody listens to this station. This station is so cluttered even by talk show standards. I didn't even get a jazz bumper in all that time.

As one who has not been kind to the new McIntrye in the Morning Show in KABC, and who thinks the show should be terminated forthwith (though, as I have posted before, I hate to see anyone lose employment in this economy, it is only right and fair to praise McIntrye when something goes right.

Monday's 3:32 interview with Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was worthy of high praise. His accurate, straightforward statements or questions concerning our Mayor Villaraigosa's utter failure as mayor of Los Angeles, his constant travels, his obvious self-serving work to get President Obama re-elected so that he (the mayor) can get appointed "assistant secretary of something" or, better still, ambassador to somewhere (far away, warm, sunny, no heavy thinking) were absolutely perfect. And the interviewee, Rep. Wasserman-Schultz (whom I respect very much and still do) clearly blew it; was caught flat-footed.

While the McIntyre show is awful still and if I were an advertiser I would put not a dime into the show or KABC, it is right and proper to give praise when due: Doug's interview with Wasserman-Schultz deserves praise; kudos. As he said, "We live here!" And she has no idea how he has screwed up the city, failed to combat gangs, failed worse in education, failed on budget issues, failed city employees. A visionary he is not. A mayor doing things for people on Main Street, Los Angeles - can't be: too many potholes (ruined my car). Out for himself: On the mayor, Doug and I agree.

T-Rae must think: "What did I get myself into!!?"

If they're paying her big buck$ at kabc, it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure isn't helping ratings! :D

It has to pain T-Rae hearing Shannon Farren slide into her former role effortlessly so quickly. It took Shannon a couple of weeks to get up to speed and while she tends to to smartly remain silent when the boys are riffing about the government weasels she can mix it up with them on the silly stuff. She's refreshingly good with the banter and I freely admit she wouldn't have ever stood a chance when T-Rae bolted. She's filled in for Hoffman on Handel many times and can roll with these boys just fine.

I still think Chris Lane would be a better fit for J&K but I'm not about to write any angry letters about it.

I listen to McIntyre in the Morning online in NY because I find McIntyre so unique and entertaining. But I have to say there's some stuff this show needs to get together.

For example, just now I heard yesterday's stock futures! OK, mistakes happen, but screwing up the market stats is a constant on this show -- quoting the futures when the markets have been open for an hour, giving completely erroneous numbers, etc.

Doug deserves better back than that.

Honestly that show is a mess. I gave up on it after 3 days and tried again recently and was the same mess. Terri-Rae always seems rushed and cannot read a news story without correcting herself. Doug seems like he is disinterested. Too many breaks and manic segments. Enough already.

Yup, I agree that Shannon has transitioned (seemingly) effortlessly into the J&K show. She sounds like a "guy's gal" and is good looking to boot.

I don't know how Shannon looks, but she sure sounds sexy. Plus she has a great laugh, particularly yesterday when she was bursting out when J&K announced that a listener could win a dinner with them. I like her, she sounds tough and can hold her own against those two.

She does! And I'd rather bid on dinner with her, and pay extra to have J&K eat broccoli in a far off table in Morton's!

But good looks aside, Shannon's voice doesn't sound as strong, projectionwise, as Chris Lane, and oftentimes sounds like it's cracking and she's struggling with breathing. Maybe speech therapy might help?

From KFI's website. You'll need to scroll down to see Shannon's photo:
