Meanwhile in New Zealand FM Talk appears to have died...

Breaking: NZ’s Today FM hosts abruptly taken off air and told to play music...

The Mediaworks' radio station Today FM abandoned scheduling this morning when presenters broke from programming to question the future of their employer.

Broadcasters told their audience they were going off air and had been instructed to play music.

Today FM hosts Duncan Garner and Tova O'Brien told listeners before 9am the station and staff were being cut.

"We've been told to play music."

"This is it, folks."

While still on-air O'Brien said the station had not been given a chance.

Staff had been told they had the support of the chief executive, the board, the executive "and they have f.....d us", she said.

Garner responded: "This is betrayal."

As stations have been replaced when other mediaworks brands. This is stunt of a new brand has appeared

“When you view the current audio loop in spectral view using an audio editor, a logo for 'Channel X' appears repeatedly throughout the clip. The URL www.channelx.co.nz has also recently been registered by MediaWorks.”

The Magic Talk/Today FM transmitter on 1107khz in Tauranga at only 5KW non directional is a fairly regular catch for me in late fall and early spring 7000 miles away.. and better than youd think.. was always better and easier to hear when they ran music.
