Meanwhile, In Other Emmis/New York Departure News...

Good Riddance. She has Kiss sounding like crap.

She transferred Hip-hop chicks Lil Nat and Cocoa Chanelle from Hot 97 to Kiss FM. They dont fit the format. Its like bringing the Housing Projects to Kiss FM.

The music has been more New Orleans than New York City. A gumbo bowl of New Orleans down home music mixed with Jay Z and Method Man. WBLS hops on new music much faster than Kiss does. This woman just didnt know what she was doing.

In the number one Market, the rumors are even worse. No replacement for the Kiss PD job and maybe an eventual format change. You can’t convince me that New York can’t support two Urban ACs. How about putting someone in place that understands the format, the music, and the lifestyle of the “New York” UAC listener? That person would be smart to quickly end the bad experiment that is the TJMS in New York.

@JerseyDude re: "You can’t convince me that New York can’t support two Urban ACs."

If there's room in the New York market for two Urban "hit radio" stations in sister station Hot 97 and rival Power 105.1, certainly Kiss and WBLS should be able to find a way to coexist, but in their case, find a way to do so without stepping on each other's toes.

I didn't write this piece. Someone else did. The guy wrote he is hearing about a format change at Kiss.

Musically, Kiss sounds like crap. Hip-Hop PD Jill Strada destroyed Kiss. Might as well change it to something else.

I see your point. That being said, "Kiss-FM" is a New York institution, long before Clear Channel decided to hijack the name and apply it to dozens of CHR stations across the country (inspired by KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, of course). It would be hard to just blow up a station like "Kiss-FM" with all of its history. Then again, WNEW-FM hasn't been around for over a decade.

KIIS was calling itself "Kiss" at about the same time the urban stations in New York and Washington (then owned by RKO and NBC, respectively, IIRC) adapted the name. And all this was when Clear Channel was just a billboard company in San Antonio and didn't own any stations.

they did it here in Boston wbcn was a staple of Boston radio till CBS decided it was time to pull the plug!!

Clear Channel got lucky with the "KISS FM" trademark. In fact, Gannett - who owned KIIS AM/FM back in the mid-80s - was responsible for registering the trademark. Via a succession of owners, Jacor began to franchise KIIS' "blue ball" logo and "KISS FM" name in 1997 on most of their CHR-formatted stations.

By the way, the KIIS calls actually stands for the stations' original frequency in LA - 1150 AM.

We all know Emmis has left Chicago. Given their situation, can they afford to hold on to Hot 97 and 98.7 KISS-FM? Any chance those stations could be sold? ???

Only WRXP, that's it! "Hot 97" at 97.1 and "Kiss-FM" at 98.7 is not going anywhere, it's under Emmis, and no, Emmis is not going to sell "Kiss-FM" to Clear Channel to go Top 40 on 98.7. CC already has "Z100", but it's doing well, and so does "92.3 Now", that's also a CBS owned station.
