Mega 101 KLOL will air the Spanish language edition of Houston Texans games

http://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n34455

Spanish CHR KLOL-FM (Mega 101 FM) Houston will become the new home of the Houston Texans Spanish radio broadcasts on gamedays. This multi-year partnership will give the Texans Spanish game broadcast the largest media reach in the team's history. The Texans are one of only seven NFL teams to broadcast in Spanish on a FM frequency. This season's Texans games will also broadcast across six Spanish radio affiliates, in cities such as El Paso and San Antonio.

"We have an incredibly large and loyal Hispanic fan base for the Houston Texans and we are constantly looking for better ways to serve them. Partnering with Mega 101 FM to provide our games every week in Spanish will allow us to engage our passionate fans like never before," remarked Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes. "We also believe Mega's expansive reach will allow us to develop many new fans that will share in the fun and excitement of Houston Texans football."

Coming soon to KLOL Mega 101

Good for them, maybe that will help boost ratings.

It's about the money, not the ratings. If anything, it will hurt them in ratings.

This might help LA CALLE too

La Calle is a limited signal station that is averaging around a 0.3 share and a 0.0 rating, so it will take more than an extra couple of hours of listening to make it successful.

Sister stations KILT-FM and KILT have simulcasted the English-language coverage for many years. An AM/FM simulcast would make sense if the games were scheduled for the late afternoon/evening hours to compensate for the earlier sunsets, but the majority of the games are start midday/early afternoon. The FM/HD1 coverage might be overkill but I prefer listening on static-free stereo FM/HD1.

The FM coverage doesn't seem to turn listeners away but end up attracting new ones to the genre.
