And Rather was named CBS news chief anchor in 1981.

As for Kelly, she will also host a primetime news program. In the meantime, Katie Couric is hosting on NBC's Today this week. I am kind of thinking we are in a whirlwind of media change right now. How it all plays out is anyone's guess.

BTW, Kelly is live on Fox tonight. Apparently, FOX has determined this won't hurt them in the short term. As for next week, who knows?

The Trump contingent demands 100% unquestioning loyalty to Trump; so Trump, as well as most of talk radio, will now be the Trump Ministry of Information.
 
But Wait Jack Abernethy could consider Mark Hyman from Sinclair Television and offer him a deal to take over Megyn Kelly's Fox News Seat. I don't know if that will lower the median ages for Fox News but it could please Roger Ailes Loyalists though. Fox News itself might find themselves competing against Sinclair Television in some places

This was after some media outlets mentioned that an alleged deal was out between Sinclair Television and Trump according to Jared Kushner.

First of all, I congratulate on her moving away from a bad culture, to a good culture of journalism. Even though they have MSNBC which is not perfect by any means, they still value the importance of TRYING to tell the truth when necessary. That being said, I can't see her on TODAY! The show's rating have gotten better so I hope she doesn't wind up there. Her contract does require her to do some sort of morning based show if I recall, so with that said, put it on NBC or MSNBC, if nothing else it wouldn't be a detriment from a ratings standpoint. And it may give The View a run for the money ratings wise.

Where would they slot her on NBC, the affiliates are not going to give up a news hour or another syndication spot. Dropping an hour of Today might be the only option.

They're dropping the 9 o'clock hour, so in most markets it will be Kelly vs. Kelly:

Megyn Kelly’s new daytime show on NBC is expected to replace Today’s 9 a.m. hour, sources said Wednesday.

The 9 a.m. hour of Today has been a trouble spot for NBC. It tries to be a take on the panel talk show, with Al Roker and Tamron Hall leading a discussion of pop culture and light news with multiple hosts.

The 9 a.m. hour straddles the more highly rated 7-9 a.m. block, anchored by Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, and the more fun and fluffy 10 a.m. hour hosted by Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. The new show will not fall under the Today banner but will instead be Kelly-branded, the sources said.

While the pay went up, a daytime talk show is likely a step down for her. I think her visibility will fall and not grow, and there is a lot of competition for prime spots there.

A primetime hour on NBC is not a step down. Though one could argue that hosts of this block have not all advanced to greater levels within NBC. Chris Hansen comes to mind. But so does Lester Holt. So the jury is out.
