Merritt Lake WA FM Scan, near Lake Wenatchee, 9/16/2021

Took a trip up into the mountains west of Leavenworth on Highway 2 today. The trail was relatively steep for about 1400 feet, then mellowed out as it headed towards the junction with the Nason Ridge trail. Golden-mantled ground squirrels, chipmunks, the 'eep' sounds of pikas, ravens, stellar's jays, nuthatches, and many other birds seen today for wildlife; a Sterlite container became about 1/4 full with more wild huckleberries, but it's late in the season and a lot of them are gone. Lake was beautiful, with Brook trout swimming around and little wind. Glad I went out today, as this weekend we are (finally!) getting a wallop of a rainstorm after another awful wildfire season. Here's the FM scan from that lake. A lot of interesting stations heard...

88.1 KLUW East Wenatchee
88.3 KMLW Moses Lake
88.5 KLRF Milton-Freewater OR (188 miles)
88.7 KDMB Moses Lake

94.1 KSWD Seattle
94.3 K232ED Sunnyslope (KKRV-HD3 / Jack FM, 99 watts 35 mi...very similar distance to 93.9 and yet they are pegging the S-meter at the lake. The 93.9 doesn't even show up!)
94.5 K233CJ College Place (Fox Sports - Shocker! 250 watts at 179 miles!! I did have the 99.7 KTEL translator in Milton-Freewater last August at 176 miles just below Thorp Mountain, NW of Easton. This I believe will beat the record for a low-power translator on Pikes Peak in the blue Mountains, or near it. Of course, Es logs from elsewhere don't count. What's amazing is NO KATS, NO KHTQ, NO KRXY. Just them, all alone!)

Pics coming up this weekend! Lots of fun, and a good workout. My first hike in about a month or so. Smoke has been the concern, as has the crazy crowds of Labor Day weekend and I was at the Ellensburg Rodeo as well. Any other hikes in 2021 will be either in the nearby shrub-steppe desert canyons for fall foliage, or just for pure exercise (i.e., the John Wayne Trail that I often take 4 or 5 mile walks on).

Show and tell time.

Early views towards the Chiwaukum Peak region. On the other side of that mountain is what's known as the Scottish Lakes - Lake Ethel, Loch Eileen, Lake Donald, and Lake Julius. Haven't been there yet. - File sharing and storage made simple
Nason Ridge (notice the lookout - that's Alpine Lookout, a popular Highway 2 hike). - File sharing and storage made simple
More of Nason Ridge - File sharing and storage made simple
Lots of these above 4500' or so, yum - File sharing and storage made simple
Merritt Lake #1 - File sharing and storage made simple
Merritt Lake #2 - File sharing and storage made simple
View to Highway 2 and railroad tracks. Heard a train as I was coming back, but didn't see what it was carrying. - File sharing and storage made simple
