This is ridiculous. Didn't the hammer already fall on Q105 a few months ago? I remember when CBS was one of the most well respected radio companies to work for. This was back in the day when it was CBS/Infinity. They were known for treating their employees right and for programming great stations. Now they are no different than the rest.

There's a new hand holding the hammer. A lot of people still look like nails.

We surely haven't heard the end of this story.

Dude! Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

Gee. I thought CBS was going to hire me to create radio names. Another lost opportunity. Are they cutting WQYK? I guess they could voice track Q105 from WCBS and WOGL. I hope they don't pull out the COX (bag of tricks) and go jockless.

I don't know what is going on at CBS, I stopped listening to WSJt when they got rid of the local staff. A friend of mine told me Al Santana was back and I tuned in this evening and there he was, sounding live and local again. He said he'd be back tomorrow afternoon. What happened?!

They decided they needed one more live body for promotions and reads. ( A male to go along with Kathy Curtis). However, Al is a part-timer in this go round and is making a fraction of what he once made. Still, I guess it beats unemployment. I would hope the part time gig does not nullify his severance.

So let me get this straight, Beecher who is more valuable than Mike Pepper is being let go? Thats not fair!

I guess I'm confused. Why do you need anybody to do promotions for a station on auto-pilot? I presume that the idea is to cut costs. Do events like at Coachman Park make money? If you get rid of everybody, you could use the janitor to do promotions. Sirius , I presume, doesn't do promotions and isn't that "THE FUTURE" ? My New Years prediction is that radio will eventually be just feeds of various formats like on Bright House Cable. I know plenty of people who prefer that on in the house to terrestial radio.

I know what it is like to be downsized ( twice) so obviously I hope I understand what these people feel. In my field , you let people go and just give whomever is left double the caseload. Instead of 7 hour airshifts, we got 150 foster care cases. Good luck to those let go. I was let go by a St.Petersburg Agency in April by a letter to my home telling me not to come back as my job is gone. I guess someone will work in my current field as there will always be addictions and I guess something or somebody has to let the music flow.

I guess radio stations make money when selling big sponsorships ... not sure if this year there will be big sponsorships sold, though.

Yep....When I saw Scott Walker hired as PD....I figured they wouldnt screw with Mason's people until Xmas.....they didnt want bad press @ Xmas Wish Charity time.

They just let go of EVERYONE on the Q105 morning show except Mason.

Also Rico is gone.

Combine that with Marvin and you clearly have a large number of changes.

I can't believe they would disband the Q Morning show. 1. Bill C was what kept the show creative, 2. JoJo was a good air talent with the ability to take over for Mason and make the show still fun. 3. Rico has been Mason's right hand man since way back. Why in the hell would management take a recipe like that morning show and add different ingredients. If it works don't try to fix it. Radio used to be fun when I worked in it. Interact with the listeners. Now they are like a bunch of robots waiting to be dismantled and sold as junk. CBS is making a grave error with this move. Mike Reeves I'm sure is licking his chops waiting for Mason to resign so he can step in as morning show guy. He in my opinion is a hack that should be selling cars at Bond Auto mart. This is pretty much the end of radio in the bay area as we know it. Merry Christmas Q-staff. Your dedication has paid off with a pink slip before X-mas. By the way.. Did they kiss you before they bent you over? Peace On Earth!

Mason hired Mike Reeves back....I seriously doubt Mike Reeves is licking at the chomps for Mason to leave.

I also left John Kelly off the list - he was let go go much earlier in the first round of layoffs.

So its:

Morning Show
Marv
John Kelly
Rico

and probably more to come.

Sound like a change of direction to you?

I was probably out of line with the Reeves comment. It is just so annoying that this is happening. How is Mason going to have a fun morning show without the rest of the gang as support. It is just going to be another boring morning show for Tampa Bay. Randy... I have always regarded you as the radio Guru. Wish you were PD of this station. You could make it number 1 like the old days. Who will replace...Marvins...er Rico's show 10-3? Didn'rt know about JK. He was a great guy with a great set of pipes.

i just heard from someone in the building .. said it isn't true. I hope it isn't true!
And as for the other jocks let go prior to today, that list also includes SuperDave, the AM sports reporter, back in early summer (i think it was at that time).
