Meruelo Media Ends Nielsen Ratings for KLOS, KPWR, KLLI, and KDAY

The hockey transaction was actually smart. He pockets a bunch of cash now and has a 5-year option to build a new hockey franchise in Phoenix. Also, a win for SLC.
Update: Looks like Alex Meruelo is walking away from hockey and pocketing his $500M. The shell entity that remains of the Arizona Coyotes is likely done, perhaps bringing an end to the 52 year old franchise. This following the cancellation of a land auction for a new arena site in Phoenix.

When they say there's no such thing as bad PR, they're wrong. This is very bad PR for Meruelo.
I don't think it affects any of his other businesses such as the casinos and radio / TV.

Aren't they moving to Salt Lake City?
The Coyotes hockey operations and players were sold to the Utah Jazz ownership, and the temporarily named Utah HC is considered a new franchise, stocked with Coyotes players in lieu of an expansion draft. Very similar to the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens deal in 1996.

Meruelo had kept the shell business operation and intellectual property of the Coyotes in hope of landing a new expansion franchise. However that is now being dissolved, with the name and logos returned to the NHL, marking the end of the 52 year old team.

Would someone please refresh my memory on when and why was KLOS sold in the first place?

It was sold in 2019 following Cumulus emergence from bankruptcy, when the company decided to exit NY and LA markets:

Around the same time, Cumulus sold a group of FMs to EMF and WABC to Red Apple.

And these were single station markets as far as FM was concerned. They really could not compete with the cluster operators.
