Is Hot 105 a lackluster biller? I'm a little surprised their success hasn't spawned a direct in-format competitor.

It's the #2 billing English language station, and tied or #3 overall.

Many thanks, David, for the info regarding Hot 105.

I'm a little surprised iHM hasn't tried to take them on. Urban AC on 93.9 would seemingly pair nicely with 103.5 The Beat.

Since this thread is about ratings in the Miami - Ft. Lauderdale - Hollywood market in general, I would be remiss if I did not given a tip 'o the cap to 104.3 The Shark. Since Audacy unloaded its excess baggage (Mike Kaplan), that station's AQH share has doubled.

I think WLYF is the top billing english station. With WQHT and WFEZ veryclose behind
WLYF, WHQT, WHYI are the English leaders. WFEZ has yet to catch up to its ratings

AM is dead in South Florida.
A lot is due to the bad signals of the majority of the stations. Even the ones with apparent high power have nulls over important areas. And well over half the market is Hispanic and won't be listening to the Wonderful Isle Of Dreams.

Aren't they or haven't they moved the transmitter to Kendall which is further south than 79th street? That doesn't make a lot of sense or did they get more power and a better pattern out of it?

The Kendall CP is for 50 kw day and 20 kw night, but the signal towards northern Broward is actually a tiny bit reduced daytime, and even a bit more at night. So they end up covering the most Hispanic areas of the market better, and the non-Hispanic areas a tiny bit less well.

Hmm smells like a sale or at least a format change?

Not likely. The CP was filed for about 7 years ago, then amended. It has taken them a long time to build this.

iHM did when they flipped 103.5 THE BEAT from Urban to UrbanAC only to flip back to Urban many years ago. 99 JAMZ and HOT 105 will always be the dominant Urban stations in Miami with a very noticeable local and community presence. IHM has too much syndication and voice tracking.
