Miami Heat Takes Clear Channel To (The Other) Court

The Heat is on WIOD-610 AM and in its last year of the contract. The Dolphins are on other stations. If the contract is with a specific station, I don't see a conflict of interest even though Clear Channel is the parent company of all three stations.

Can you see the court ruling in favor of the Heat and allowing them to break the contract mid-season? This could have the other stations (QAM and the Ticket) ready to pounce with some great deals.

Actually, the Heat is on 940 WINZ. Used to be WIOD but CC switched them back to WINZ a year or two back. Fins run their games on BIG and WINZ.

More people care about the football game I would say. Plus aren't most people watching either game on TV. So for the Dolphins game on FM is correct action.

The Heat have never had a really good radio deal. "QAM" started simulcasting the radio call with the TV announcers, then there was the solo play-by-play that made racist remarks (name escapes me).

Once IOD got the rights, they brought on Mike Inglis who has been alright, but not until last year did he have a regular analyst (John Crotty) because CC wouldn't pay for a 2-man team for all 82 games.

Sun Sports is doing a GREAT job of grabbing affiliates because IOD would offer little to no space for local spots. I was at CC-WPB when WBZT carried the Heat. BZT was only given ONE MINUTE per Hour for local inventory.

CC-MIA has done a piss poor job of representing the Heat. This blame goes to Ken Charles, period.

The Heat, given they can win breach of contact, should exercise moving to a different station and move to WAXY. WAXY would be the right fit for the Heat.

Dave Halberstam (not the famous author) made the remarks construed as racist. Verbal crapping of the mouth, yes, racist no. The broadcasts were with Clear Channel at the time of his unfortunate choice of words. He was an employee of the HEAT, by the way. As is Mike Inglis who was hired by...the HEAT. Not Clear Channel.

The HEAT announcers are employees of the HEAT and it is the HEAT's decision on which announcers and how many to use...not because, as was stated earlier, WIOD wouldn't pay for a second announcer.

The HEAT broadcasts were/are owned by the HEAT. They control the in game inventory. Actually, WIOD and probably WBZT had about two minutes in the broadcast to sell. That was the deal and pretty standard in the industry. Team keeps most of the inventory, station doesn't have to be pay rights fees. But it wasn;t up to WIOD to offer local inventory to anyone.

This all accurate. The only thing I would add is that WIOD or now WINZ gets to sell anything outside of the network broadcast. Pre or Post games.

I guess that shows how much I listen to the Heat on the radio.

In fact I only listen if I remember a game is on when I am driving. I prefer the TV announcers on all sports because of the delay the TV gives before you see it. I used to listen to Radio play-by-play while watching it on TV, but couldn't follow it correctly because it is delayed by up to 10 seconds.
