Mikan out at WDRC-AM Headed for WMRD/Davis Cuts hours of show

Phil Mikan host of The Phil Mikan Show and The Agent's Corner on WDRC-AM has decided not to renew his contract with WDRC-AM. He'll be launching a new show on WMRD 1150 in Middletown shortly. Meanwhile Brad Davis has chopped an hour off his show during the week and a half hour on Saturdays.

With Brad Davis cutting an hour off his show, which is now ending at 9AM, WDRC has added the 1st hour of Glenn Beck at 9AM (previously they were only carrying the 2nd and 3rd hours). With Mikan gone they are now carrying the 3rd hour of Dr. Joy at 2PM. (Previously they only carried the first 2 hours 12PM-2PM). And finally The Radio Mystery Theatre show that was airing 11PM-1AM has been replaced by The Best of Dr. Joy.

Thanks for sharing; don't forget to add it to the big Connecticut Decade In Review thread, too.

So which end result do you think fares better for WDRC kisteners, more Glenn Beck or more Dr. Joy?

I would say Glenn Beck. I think 5 hours a day of Dr. Joy is a bit much, but then again with her on during the day and at night some people who might not be able to listen during the day can listen at night. I've also heard callers who say they fall asleep to her while listening on CHML out of Hamilton. They carry her 2AM-5AM, so more people can fall asleep listening to her.

Wow, and this is coming from the president of the Dr. Joy fan club. Now that's saying something.

Wow. I wasn't a fan of Ed's show, but it won't be the same with Larry taking over. Just like a few years ago when they had Charlie Profit from WXCT filling in.

Why do you say that?

I'm sure Larry will tweak the show to make it his own.

You didn't answer my question. I'll ask again: Why do you say that?

I thought it was a common practice. I know on rare occasions when talk show hosts have fill-ins, the fill-ins often bring their own elements (not sure if that's the right word or not) to the show. Like I said a couple times in the past Charlie Profit filled in for Flynn. Charlie brought some elements from his own show over to Flynn's show.
