I SADLY REPORT THAT MIKE MCCOY (AFTERNOON DRIVE ON 98.1 THE HAWK IN THE 90'S AND VARIOUS SHOWS ON 991 THE WHALE IN THE 80'S AS WELL AS 1360 WKOP-AM AND 1430 WENE), PASSED AWAY AT 1:30AM ON THURSDAY JANUARY 15TH AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. HIS VOICE AND GREAT PERSONALITY WILL BE MISSED. THE MEMORIAL WILL BE IN THE PRESS & SUN BULLETIN AND ON PRESSCONNECTS.COM IN THE COMING DAYS. GOODBYE MIKE... IT WAS SO NICE KNOWING YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP WITH ST. JUDE'S KIDS.

My condolences to his family. I'm sorry to hear this. What a personality! What a booming voice! I really enjoyed him on the air and off the air. A great man to know. I know he had a disability, although I never knew the type, nor did he ever talk about it. The last time I saw him, he was crossing Court St, he just got off the air at the Hawk, and he told me about the opening there. He told me to get my ass there asap..I did, and got the gig, because of him! Although I was only there for a short time, I'll never forget him...

Mike, Apparently God was looking for an heavenly DJ...You're on...Peace be with you.
 
Sorry to read of the passing of Mike. I had worked at a competing FM station in the Meadville, PA market in 1979 and always remember hearing Mike on air in middays on WMGW after I got off the air at the then WYSS-FM.

RIP.
