Sports: Mike Nail Becomes Interim Voice of the Razorbacks

Fayetteville - Dale Nicholson, President and General Manager of KATV and Frank Broyles, University of Arkansas Athletic Director, mutually announced today that sportscaster Mike Nail of Fayetteville will serve as the (ARSN) radio play-by-play announcer for University of Arkansas football games in the upcoming season.

“We are pleased that Mike Nail has agreed to take on this role for us in the interim,” said Nicholson. “Mike already serves as the play-by-play radio voice for the basketball Hogs and he has helped KATV on numerous occasions in this same capacity when we have provided cable television with pay-per-view feeds of Razorback football games. We feel it is in the best interest of Razorback fans to provide them with an announcer they are familiar with.”

I was very happy to see that Mike Nail was giving this job. Nail has worked hard, bringing us Razorback basketball for 25 years. Having a familiar voice for this upcoming season will indeed be comforting in light of the tragic death of Paul Elles. I wish Mike good luck in what will be a very difficult assignment.

good move, they will need all the time they can get to do a search, I wouldn't wish that job on anyone.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. I can think of at least a half dozen folks who would love to have the job--even following the legendary Paul Eells. In fact, if you're in radio or TV in the region, I can't imagine NOT wanting the job as Voice of the Razorbacks.

I agree. Being the voice of a Texas High School football powerhouse is exciting enough. I can barely imagine how exciting it would be to be the voice of a college FB powerhouse like Arkansas.

Remember, this is on a one year basis. The choice of Nail was part out of the need for famililarity with the fans but was more out of neccessity. For those who have posted previously, just think about it for a minute. One month before the season starts and your without your main announcer. You're not going to be able to get someone else in that frame of time because all the other people who already do this sort of thing are in the final preparation stages at their respective schools. You wouldn't be able to get, say the voice of the Vanderbilt Commodores Joe Fisher to do it on such short notice. For one thing, Vanderbilt or whatever school WOULD NOT let their announcer out of their contracts with so little time left just so they could go somewhere else. By the way, I wouldn't rule out Joe Fisher for next year. He attended the Eelles memorial service last week. Seemed like a really nice guy.

I would give my right leg to do one game in Fayetteville before I die. Football, basketball, or baseball..

I would be a very happy man.
