Mike Organ TV/Radio column in Tennessean...

Mike Organ's TV/Radio column hasn't been in the Friday Tennessean since about mid December. The Tennessean has under gone a lot of changes since the new editor, Mark Silverman, has taken over. Several regular features or items have disappeared since he has taken over. Mike Organ is also the beat writer for Vanderbilt sports, so that may something to do with his TV/Radio column no longer running.

Actually, Organ has not been the beat writer for VU for several years...

at least the major sports. Bryan Mullen was for a couple years, now it's Maurice Patton. Mike may cover the WBB team when the game's in town, other than that, as far as I can tell, he sort of floats.

I also remember while I was growing up a listing in the Living section of all the AM and FM stations that broadcast in or around Nashville, and what their format was. That has been gone for at least seven or eight years, maybe more.

While I really miss having some coverage of the local sports media scene, Organ really was a hack writer. Better to have no coverage than Organ coverage, I guess.

Organ really had no place writing about the sports electronic media in the first place. His columns were filled with half-truths and was really used as a forum for radio "insiders" for free publicity. Does the public really care about what's happening at wnsr, for instance...

His attempts at analysis were embarrassing and really exposed his lack of knowledge. In fairness, someone put an end to his lame attempts at analysis, because he stopped making any attempts at commentary awhile back. His only critical comments were reserved for on-air personalities that he sensed were "weak" in their positions of employment or he didn't know personally.

As much as I'd love for the Tennessean to offer a weekly column on the sports media, if Organ is the best they can do, maybe its better off left alone...

I may be partly to blame for that...

I would e-mail whomever was in charge of the Living section every time a radio format changed or tweaked, and I think they got tired of hearing from me.....................Doug "Nash.radio"

P.S. Sorry, but I don't know how to link who I quoted: soundandsports on January 19

I notice is no longer a part of Friday's sports section. What happened to it???

Looks like it'll be back tomorrow, Feb. 2, with a report on the new #1-rated sports talk show in Nashville, The Wake-Up Zone.

Most of the print reporters who write about broadcast media don't know what they're talking about.
In Nashville, Henry Walker, Richard Pride and several others showed their ignorance. The only decent media writers I've seen were Greg Bailey at the Banner and Matt Pulle at the Scene.
