Mike Taylor's AM Drive Show will be simulcast in SA and Austin

KTKR's Mike Taylor announced on his show this morning that starting tomorrow, his show will be simulcast on KTKR and KVET-AM. He will split time between the studios in Austin and SA. The show will be renamed "The Mike Taylor Show," since "Sports Talk San Antonio" didn't quite fit a show carried in two markets.

He'll "split time between Austin and SA", thought he was based in Wisconsin or someplace well north of Texas and that's why he went to the mornings in SA and left the afternoon show.

Probably a combination of low overall ratings, and CC will spin it as 'another way of bring high quality consistent programming to our vast network of stations' (right radio512?)

Taylor appeals to the 18-21 year old male who knows nothing about sports but gets excited about talking about hot chicks, punching someone in the mouth, etc, etc....

The lead stories on the slideshow on the Longhorn Stations website are 1) Beautiful Broadcasters of Austin 2) Patriotic Babes, 3) Women of the Week, 4) Amazing Photos from X-Games (whoops sports, how did that get there) 5) Run Girls Run (Pseudo Bay Watch), 6) Bring the X games to Austin, 7) Commercial for Colt's academy...You have to scroll way past the fold to get close to anything even remotely resembling sports, top of the fold is designed only for titillation.

It was funny, last night I went to the site to see what was going on with it, and they had a story about the Spurs playing the Memphis Timberwolves, so Taylor will fit right in with Jay Mohr You can put their sports knowledge together in a thimble and have room left over, but I bet Taylor works cheap so what the heck, doesn't matter.

And as folks have said on this board, maybe Austin just isn't a sports talk town so nobody cares about the quality of programming.

Gotta love MM Pam McKay's "spin"... "We look forward to him (Taylor) not only continuing the Zone's success and momentum, but also growing our Austin audience." Some kinda "success and momentum".... .6/.7/.6

According to radioink.com Taylor's show is now from 6-8 which is an hour less than Bucky's which ran from 6-9, so I guess Taylor is going to lead the charge towards a bigger and better 1300 by not being on the air ;D and they're going make DP and Jay Mohr live, (boy that ought to bring in the listeners) and then the Sports Buffet is going 5 hours now from 2-7. Haven't ever listened to the buffet, so can't make any smart !#%@ comment....

Seriously? Was he fired? Did anyone hear him yesterday give his send off?

Sendoff? Nobody gets a sendoff in modern radio. You are told 5 min after you finish your show one day. There is no 2 week notice when you are leaving on your own. They will pull you off the air before you hit that 2 weeks so you can't say anything controversial.

As for Bucky, I'm sure his contract was up and they decided they could eliminate a salary by putting Mike Taylor on both stations. Actually 2 salaries since they also let Steve Ethridge go who has been the producer for a couple of months.

Oh, and don't blame PD Jon Madani for any of the changes. I'm sure he has pretty much no say in any of this.

So what does a PD do at a CC station these days....?

Anyway, heard the first show with Taylor, it seemed like he spent the first hour apologizing for being on the air. Lots of remarks about how mistakes were going to be made, audio quality was weak (it was!), etc. Obviously, he's a good guy put in a bad situation.

Taylor announced yesterday on the show that his wife took a job as a TV news director in Victoria, TX. He will continue doing the simulcast show from down there and make periodic appearances in both markets. He'll be in Austin as part of the pre and post-game coverage for Longhorn football games.
