Mike Webb Convicted of Insurance Fraud; to do 240 Hours Community Service

Is he going to talk up the post time over the in-store music at QFC?

More like programming the background music at Western State Mental Institution! ::)

This is sad. I knew and worked with Mr. Webb many years ago. He treated me very well and I am truely sorry to hear of his troubles. Hopefully he will be able to turn things around. He's done it before.

You make it sound like he killed someone. He didn't.

He got off pretty easy; he could be making license plates. Instead he'll be picking up cigarette butts.

It's hard to dole out sympathy for someone who apparently let his job get to his head.

Did we work for the same guy? Knew him when he was in one of the low points ... cleaned up and made another go of it, but things went to his head at that point too and not many people were that eager to follow where he led. He could be VERY nice could be VERY funny ... but there was always that dark side that was just no fun. I guess I could offer an observation that good leaders lead with confidence, humility and compassion ... and from there you move into the leaders who think intimidation is the only tool that is effective.

I guess it's no surprise that over the years I've seen many people in our industry tangle with the law. Many accept they have been busted and do the punishment (which is almost ALWAYS lenient ... unless you're a CBS affiliate airing some nip on a super bowl); but for whatever reason in this case it's kind of ongoing denial that is just kind of creepy.

I too hope he gets it together ... don't WISH these scenarios on anyone; but there's also something to be said for not just facing up to demons and accepting that there is a pattern.*

*: Dick's scuffle with cops, scuffle at courthouse, denial of facts in this case, previous addictions. Lots of bad karma in there that was "not my fault"....with those odds, I'd start buying lottery tickets.

It isn't hard to have sympathy for someone who obviously has some mental illness challenges, and a past that has included overcoming demons. The "job" probably had little to do with it.

Those traits and Webb's other behavior I've heard or read about exhibit what very well could be bipolar disorder, a potentially devastating illness if not treated. Searadiofreak is on the money. A little sympathy is in order for Mr. Webb, regardless of his poor decisions in the eyes of the law.

I have a AAA membership but I still need a freaking road map to navigate this board.

You can bash the daylights out of people like Kent/Alan, Icahbod, Rivers, etc. who are nice people and DO NICE THINGS ... but some guy who treats co-workers with arrogance and disdain lands his own butt in jail and we're supposed to be crying tears because of an alledged mental condition?

I'm with the JUDGE on this ... he brought it on himself and has slammed face-first into every warning sign along the way. People like Robert Downey Jr. kept slipping into rehab and problems too and while I absolutely agree that people deserve a break when they WANT to make a go of it, I certainly don't buy this horsepuckey of bad behavior and then we'll excuse it because they are bipolar. Ya screw up ... ya pay the consequences. If there's a disorder, it's dealt with at Western State ... but it's still DEALT with because there ARE victims from this behavior. And I don't disagree that the biggest victim is the one responsible for the behavior ... but if it makes anyone feel better I promise to honk and wave with all FIVE fingers when I pass him cleaning up a median on I-5.

Well, I never personally bashed Kent & Alan, although I still maintain the station is underperforming.

Mental illness will always have a stigma in our society, (in fact, many don't even believe it is real). Science will refute that with factual information that some in our society have a heredity disposition toward this disease. Yes, when others are severely harmed by this condition then there must be consequences to the accused. Other than insurance losses, in this case this does not appear to be the case, and I think the penalty is correct.

In Mike's case, there seems to be a double standard. He is in "media", so he must be not only guilty, but "nuts" as well. Is he being treated differently because he was in the media? If so, unfair.

So, go ahead and wave to Mike along the Interstate, but realize that God Forbid, there goes you, or me. A little compassion might go along way in this case. Please forgive those who do not have the luck to not suffer from this disease, and forgive those who may not live up to your "normal" standards. Then ask yourself how you can make it better.

If Webb actually has this "mental condition," don't you think that the lawyer would have pounced on that?

Think about it. We're in a society that will blame anyone else for our own actions. We'll see it again shortly when Brandy's lawyers will try to fault CalTrans for building the roadway, the gas station where she last filled up and the moon's alignment when her case come up.

You can't cite mental illness on Webb's part just because he was cuffed and sent to Harborview's rubber room. Anytime someone threatens to kill her/himself in front of a cop, they're going to get a room at Harborview. Period.

Face it, the guy screwed up on several levels, and now he's paying his debt to society. One could argue he got off light with the community service sentence. But I'm sure his legal team will wash out that 15% or more he saved using Geico.
