MIX 1077 filling the CHR void as well as the Hot AC?

They are on Tik Tok by Ke$ha, Whataya Want From Me, Fifteen, and other big CHR songs. Less 80s now as well. Could Jeff and Shaun be getting closer to more 90s and Now?

It certainly looks that way. I'm also digging the two 75-minute music Mixes that they're playing during the workday, one right after the Mix Morning Show around 10 AM and the one immediately following the Time Warp Cafe around 1 PM.
Also...Jeff and Shaun are both great guys...and Jeff once programmed a CHR, DJ/Power 95 from 1990-93.

Could this also mean they are very close to getting rid of 94.5 and 106.5, and adjusting the music accordingly?

That's been in the talk for years. 945 will be Prem Choice until it dies. Maybe 1065 could actually be something good. 1077 needs to dump the 80s altogether. I know I'm not their target demo, but when I hear an 80, I turn it off. At least Mix 1079/Columbus, when they play 80s, they're HUGE familiar hits, even with the young crowd.

lovejamminoldies, you're not alone in your sypnosis of Mix 107.7 and the 80s that they play. A lot of 80s tunes have suffered severe burn with me, i.e. "Jessie's Girl", "Come On Eileen", "Tainted Love", etc. I am sick to death of these tunes. I would try to spin some stuff from the later part of the 80s(i.e. stay with 86 and later) if i'd play the 80s at all. The late 80s had a lot of great music that a lot of stations haven't played in years, and most likely because some of it doesn't test well. I'd much rather hear tunes from the 80s like "Blue Jean" by David Bowie, Bobby Brown "Rock Witcha" and "West End Girls" by the Pet Shop Boys than the ones listed above.
ALSO...the lines of CHR/Pop and Hot AC have been blurred lately with the likes of Ke$ha, the Black Eyed Peas, and Beyonce crossing from CHR to Hot AC, and even some Hot AC acts crossing over to CHR. I think somewhere on one of the other boards, or perhaps in one of Sean Ross's "Ross on Radio" columns that this topic was discussed.

106.5 has a huge signal, but with it being out of Greenville and being positioned as a Dayton station, it'll never mean much to the Dayton market...HOWEVER, someone in the Greenville/Western Indiana area could get ahold of it and put the right format on there(Country isn't the best option IMHO), it could be a powerhouse for that area. Until then, it will be a meaningless Satelitte-fed 50,000 watt signal. :'(
You're right on 94.5...it will be PC until CC divests it. That signal also has a lot of issues in certain areas, even at 6,000 watts, one being close spacing with Columbus's WSNY/Sunny 95. When it's sold it's hard to tell what the new owners would do with it...i'm figuring some kind of cheaply run format, maybe Sports on the FM, which would fill a void in the market...not that i'm a fan of that format, but it's a "format hole" worth filling with a smaller signal.

Anyway you look at it, this would be a good "prevent" strategy for Mix...

Most likely, observers have indicated if Mix adopted a strategy similar to WNCI/Columbus, they could do very well as an "Adult CHR" station. Which would be a good alternative to Hot 102-9's younger, urban sound. (The only problem is: Jeff may have to give up the 80's, and I know it's his passion and love. But, times change. And radio changes.)

Otherwise, it would leave an opening for a Mainstream Adult CHR. Mix has done reasonably decently in the battle with Fly 92-9...but Fly has managed to divide the A/C listening audience, and both Mix and Lite have suffered for it.

I'm with ya Kevin! Jeff loves the 80s...and so do I(At least the ones that I haven't been completely burned out on), but the 80s are now three decades behind us, seeing as we're in the 2010s. Jeff is a great, intelligent guy and i'm sure that he realizes this(I definitely do). I think the phase away from the 80s will be a slow transition for 'MMX...but it's bound to happen(They finally phased out the 70s just within the past year). I see Mix evolving more toward an Adult CHR myself, or at least a "90s and now" Hot AC, maybe more like Q102? Q is a great sounding Adult CHR itself. Mix needs to keep the "Adult CHR" hole filled. Let Fly and Lite have the stinkin' 80s music(and Fly has sounded awfully 80s heavy lately)...and let Mix evolve.
On a personal note...I think Mix has sounded great lately. When Fly first signed on Mix stumbled out of the gate but it seems as though now they're much more focused music-wise. Also, and this is only my opinion, if they want to evolve into an Adult CHR they need to dump the incredibly unhip John Tesh at night and stick on the Hot AC version of "On Air With Ryan Seacrest". Whenever 94.5 is sold off Seacrest will need somewhere to go and 'MMX seems like a certain destination...although I don't know the specifics of how long their deal with Tesh is for. Another option is to stick Seacrest on 10-3 much like WNCI does. No one would lose their gig this way...it'd just be one less station for Cindy Spicer to track...and Shaun could go back to his original 3-7 slot.
