Monday afternoon on WHAS? Tell me it was a joke ... or contest winners were host

Don't mean to hop on your board and speak with no knowledge of the market (doesn't stop anyone else here though does it??!! :D ) --

but on my way up to Indy on Monday, I was greeted with what had to be the WORST local afternoon talk duo I have heard this side of a Saturday Night Live skit mocking radio. I didn't get the names, but they may have been subs due to MLK holiday - I was truly stunned! I assumed since Rush was on this station (WHAS) it was a "top talent" station in the market - the male/female duo were sooooo bad! They had no "back and forth" other than, "yea, yea, you're right." "oh yea, that's true" "oh THAT's Funny!" - when it truly was NOT funny.

These two sounded like they had won a call-in contest to come in and host on a holiday - I HAD to change the station. It wasn't even "comically" bad - it was EMBARRASSING!

I'm sorry to rip on your board about your market, but I've heard GREAT talent in Louisville - and I believe I ended up on a good sport talk show (one of the three was talking about being an IU grad ...) THEY sounded like they belonged on a radio dial.

The point of this is - tell me these two are not the REGULAR talent (?) following Rush ...

Following Mr Limbaugh is usually Terry Meiners.I did not listen yesterday. Terry must have had the day off.Terry is very good at what he does to bad you missed him.He has been in this market for years.

The Saturday morning team is a married couple...her name is Mel...I forget his. They are usually the pinch hitters when Terry's off. I didn't listen that afternoon but if it was a male/female duo, it's a good possibility that they were the ones you heard.

You must be referring to Ron and Mel. They are a married couple and their regular shift is Saturday mornings from 6-9. They also substitute for morning host Tony Cruise and afternoon host Terry Meiners.

HOW did they get that gig? It must be one of those duos you have to listen to over a period of time to appreciate - because I don't get it.

Ron was a promo type guy...no on air work. He did entertainment report on air for a while and cc must have realized he was eager and cheap. Mel (now his wife) was doing a mid day show on WQMF and they got married. It is a long way from the talent this powerhouse station has presented over the years.

You have GOT to be kidding me? Terry Meiners "good" at what he does? Appearantly you have not heard really good radio. I'm talking "Skinny" Bobby Harper, Cousin Brucie, even Gary Burbank at WLW. Terry Meiners is a boob. Makes me thankful I made the jump to XM looooooong time ago.

Totally agree. When I've been there on business, I've found his show extremely
entertaining and unique. And, based on the very little I know about the market,
I'd have to guess him on a WHAS means big numbers and revenue for what he
does.

WHAS could put up a 400Hz tone for most of the broadcast day and still get #2 in the book. You want good local talent, listen to their sister station WLW up the road in Cincy. The only two things WHAS has going for it is the 50kW signal and Rush.
