Montgomery Alabama's complicated switch: K-Love, news/talk and The Gump.

The hills are alive in Montgomery, Ala., with the sound of movement, where there’s a new “K-Love” affiliate, a news/talk move and… “The Gump.” First, Bluewater Broadcasting’s modern rock simulcast of 1170 AM and an FM translator is named “104.9 The Gump.” It’s not moving, but the AM is getting new call letters that better fit its name: “WGMP.” Bluewater market manager Terry Barber tells Radio-Info.com that this all came together like this: Bluewater has been operating a news/talk format at 107.9, via Alexander Broadcasting-owned WMRK, licensed to Shorter, Ala. But Bluewater and Alexander weren’t able to agree on converting the LMA to a purchase, and now the news/talk format (but not the WMRK calls) is going to another FM signal. That would be 93.1, a new Class A licensed to Coosada, Ala., which Liberty Acquisitions won in the FCC’s Auction 91. The new 93.1 signal will take the news/talk format from 107.9, plus the call letters currently on 1170 AM: WACV. Terry Barber says “those call letters have a long-standing representation of news/talk in Montgomery.” Finally, 107.9 will begin airing Educational Media Foundation’s non-commercial contemporary Christian “K-Love” on September 1, under an LMA with Alexander.
