MORE changes in NYC - BIG NEWS Scott Shannon retires soon from CBS-FM

I'm guessing that the announcement will be made either during Scott's final show or shortly after the holidays.

We shall see during his final show next week, and guess what, after I going to finish listening to Scott Shannon’s final show starting next week, it’s over! It’s done! The End! I’m not going to listen to WCBS-FM ever again starting like next week. I’m gonna end up listening to other radio station like WBPM where Bob Miller takes over Scott Shannon’s place for now until maybe I will decide to listen to Allan David Stein on WMTR starting January 2nd with the morning show replacing Scott Shannon, and they’re playing the oldies from 50’s and 60’s, and that’s why it sounds way better than WCBS-FM the way it sounded back in the “Golden 101” era. There were oldies stations which is still popular like WROW’s “Magic 590/100.5” up in Albany which is a better station where they got the oldies the way it sounded on WCBS-FM back in the 80’s and 90’s, and WGNY-FM’s “Fox Oldies” which is not that bad, but fine, but not great, and of course, you got WABC for their music on weekends like Vinnie Medugno, Cousin Brucie, Tony Orlando, Joe Piscopo and Deana Martin. Plus WBPM has brought back JJ Carter replacing Bob O on WGNY-FM’s “Fox Oldies” and also John Gabriel on WROW’s “Magic 590/100.5” replacing Randy Turner at WBPM, and Jimmy Howes will remain in evenings on WALL. We shall see starting as next week where I’m going to record Scott Shannon’s final show on WCBS-FM.

Maybe Todd & Jayde from former 95.5 PLJ or even Elvis Duran from Z100 or something like that.
No. Todd’s in Texas, and cancelled that short-lived podcast of his. Jayde’s still doing stuff for Cumulus, and Elvis is ridin’ high with iHeart.

While I’m fairly sure Race Taylor will go to mornings, I think another great fit would be Hollywood Hamilton. He’s aging out (no offense) of WKTU, but would be a great fit for this 80’s & 90’s centric era of WCBS. I don’t think he will jump ship from iHeart but he’s someone that could exceed in either mornings.

Scott Shannon will now have more time to continue with his “True Oldies Channel”.

No way! I’m not going to listen to the “True Oldies Channel”, I’m going to other stations where I can get my 50’s and 60’s oldies fix. I will start listening to WMTR starting January 2nd where Allan David Stein from “Doo-Wop Drive” will do mornings replacing Scott Shannon from WCBS-FM, he will be playing 50’s and 60’s oldies, and I will looking forward to it, and then next week, Bob Miller from WBPM will be taking over Scott Shannon for his final week I will be listening to until the 23rd, and Bob Miller’s “Morning Stretch” will be this Thursday morning at 9AM which is going to be the final hour long show before he goes back full time starting next week. Scott Shannon’s final show will be this Friday morning at 6AM where it goes on until 10AM. After his final show, it’s the end of the road for Scott Shannon and WCBS-FM. I will stop listening to CBS-FM after he leaves this Friday.

This is post coming from Facebook about Scott Shannon’s final show and I can’t wait to listen to this Friday. What’s going to happen after I’m finish listening to his final show, I’m done with CBS-FM.

Yes, it’s true - The Big Show will broadcast our last show on WCBS-FM 101.1 on Friday, December 16 live from Blythedale Children’s Hospital! Be sure to tune in from 6-10AM!!

I am curious about why would you be done with CBS-FM? I thought Shannon decided to retire, no?

People want them to play 1955-1970, the Golden One Oh One.
Bring back the DooWap shop too.

If they had a problem with the 80s, then they are just going to love CBS Fm playing I got a feeling from Black Eyed Peas in afternoon drive time, and then earlier I think it was in the 9 or 10am hour, they played Taylor Swift Shake it off.

I've heard Poison from BBD a few times now which is a very strong early 90s song that totally fits what they have been doing.

It's in no way a rap song, but there's those who think it is one, and I'm hoping for someone to now mention Funk Flex to take over for Scott Shannon.

Scott himself is known to play songs that are out of format, either from the 60's or from the 2010s. Same for Broadway Bill Lee on Fridays. The bulk of the broadcast day is solidly 80's with smatterings of 70's 90's and early 2000's.

So they were just listening for Shannon in despite of the playlist. Got it.

There were other stations out there where you can your 50’s and 60’s oldies fix. You got WMTR, and then WGNY-FM’s “Fox Oldies”, WROW’s “Magic 590/100.5” and WGHQ’s new “Magic 92.5”. They also got “Story Untold” hosted by PJ Noce, and then “Doo-Wop Drive” with Allan David Stein which is on every Friday night on WMTR plays doo-wop the way Don K Reed used to played them on the “Doo-Wop Shop” back in the day.

As of now, CBS-FM is close from being done, only 3 more shows left for Scott Shannon and it is going to be history, and as of Friday, after Scott Shannon leaves, it’s all over. I am planning on recording three more shows for tomorrow, then Thursday which is the 2nd to last show, and Friday will be his last show. I can’t wait to listen to his final show.

I’m getting tired of hearing “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, “Hey Ya” by OutKast, “I Got A Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas and Smash Mouth’s cover of the Monkees’ “I’m A Believer”, because CBS-FM is the one that I can’t stand it anymore. This station is going to be like the new “Jack 2.0”.

Nope, after mornings and before 7p the last few days, Monday and today.

According to Mediabase, Shake It Off was played at 8:56 at the tail end of Scott's show, which was what I was referring to; he does this at the beginning. The Black Eyed Peas song played at 4:30 during Bill Lee's show, which he is known to bend the format as well, so these two songs are outliers and not in rotation.

There is a vocal minority of people (mostly on this board) who long for the days of 50-60's oldies-era WCBS-FM, which is fine; people can have their own preferences and tastes.

The fact of the matter is that the bulk of Scott's listener base listened to him when he was on Z100 in the 80's and PLJ in the early 90's, despite Scott having a career spanning much of his lifetime. CBS-FM has evolved to be (dare I say) the oldies station of the Z100 era, the same way the oldies-era CBS-FM emulated WABC, WMCA, etc., and it has done so successfully, according to the extremely strong ratings it sees across the board.
