KWLZ has been on the air for a few days now with an oldies format. I have heard on a local board that it is a placeholder format. The are using jingles and are playing 25,000 songs in a row.
I just can't see someone going to all the trouble of buying a jingle package and pushing the call letters and the format, if they have no intention of keeping it. It's expensive and doesn't make any sense!
But how many stations are running some kind of Classic Rock/Hits format in Portland now? Sheesh! How many times can you invent the wheel?
Buh-bye, Classic Rock. Alpha's taken over (via LMA) and the station's now Rhythmic CHR.
The Eagle hasn't made much change since I was down there, so I doubt they're going to make many changes now that they've lost competition. The more interesting one to watch is going to be Jamn'. How do they respond to new competition? Do they stay the course or make changes?
You don't think Jamn' is going to change anything with a new competitor? I wouldn't be surprised if eventually Alpha tries to mainstream this thing and Jamn' goes all throwbacks similar to Hot. I'm just not convinced a full-blown Urban format is going to work in Portland.
Hmm I'm not convinced. KRYP did go #1 with a similar signal, granted that was just before the PPM entered the market. If this were 102.9 I'd agree with you.
