More than 30 million people have signed up for Meta's new "Twitter Killer" Threads app

I think that Elon thinks that money solves everything.
I wonder how much he will spend on a lawyer vs what Mark will spend on one... :ROFLMAO:

Yes when Elon Musk ranted about NPR plus their affiliates as "State Media" and inserted that label. I tried to look for a specific case of defamation or a news report that NPR News was about to release on Elon Musk but was left with articles that AP News and Reuters wrote specifying lawsuits at Tesla and Twitter at the time he ranted about NPR News as State Media. Elon Musk didn't even have the evidence that NPR committed defamation except NPR, PBS and their affiliates boycotting Twitter and telling their audience to look for them on their respective apps.

Where do you see that number?

You can see posts only from the people you follow. The app is just not set to do that by default, it's buried and the setting has a weird label.

Settings->Notifications->Threads and Replies->First threads->select "From people you follow"

It takes some time for the non-followed posts to fall out of your feed, and after that you'll see what you want.
I learned how to deal with this early on.

I explained my slow Internet in a post that people criticized so I won't repeat the post. I went to the library once a week and saw Facebook there. It quickly became clear that I was never going to read everything in my feed so I never did. I read timelines of friends (or maybe they were still called walls) and that was it. One person posted so much the computer froze before I could get to all the old posts.

Not Signing up til Threads get a Web version

I use Instagram, Facebook & Twitter on Chrome
Facebook only for me and that's to keep up with people I went to high school with or in a few cases people I met online, and one former pastor of my church. I "signed up" for Twitter because to read classic comic strips I had to sign in with Google. I don't take advantage or reply to posts.

Can't believe all the peeps (or my cousin calls 'em sheepies) flocked to the Threads garbage. Meta needs to implode.

Sure but we need to wait until the 2024 elections when politicians start to use "Threads" to find out the impact if meta lives on or not. It won't be one day or one month but a long term change though. It's like the time Facebook beat Myspace for the most users by the 2010s.

Myspace still exists as of 2023 but it curates entertainment news not the Social Media site they were in the mid-2000's.

The annoying fact is, once you join, you can't leave Threads unless you want to give up your instagram account also.
That's just wrong. The two should be two separate cancellations.
What's next? Forcing me to leave Facebook also for leaving Threads?

Meta will simply claim that the two apps/sites are integrated, just like in the federal antitrust case when Microsoft claimed their Internet Explorer browser was an "integral part" of the Windows operating system.

They've already started that, by allowing Threads users to follow Instagram users on the site, even if they haven't joined yet:

Twitter traffic is ‘tanking’ as Meta’s Threads hits 100 million users

“Threads reached 100 million sign ups over the weekend. That’s mostly organic demand and we haven’t even turned on many promotions yet. Can’t believe it’s only been 5 days!” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post Monday.
Twitter appears to have taken a hit. Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, shared a screenshot to Twitter Sunday showing that traffic on the platform was “tanking.”

Amazing but at the same time "Threads" is co-promoted with Meta other owned outlets like Instagram and Facebook so not shocking that Threads rose the way it did. Wait until 2024 when politicians show up on Threads and do the same stuff there like they did on Twitter so we do not know the full impact on this site until then.

Here is more by Musk.

To relate this to broadcasting, the DJ on Good Time Oldies said there was very little activity on Twitter after so many people signed up for Threads.
