Morning hosts Art Terrell and Zooman Miller off Kiss 104.1

Who knows why these things happen in radio, but they do. Kiss 104's numbers even in the younger demos have stood up well to Majic's. Could it have been money? Does the (relatively) new PD want her own people in the slot?

Art is a really good guy and has been on Atlanta radio for many years. Prior to his 16 years on Kiss, he worked at Hot when it was new.

I suspect the budget ax has hit Cox.

You might be right. Remember Cox Media Group is now owned by Apollo. There have been some cutbacks but not sure if they were because billings are down during COVID, or because Apollo wants to run a leaner operation.

Apollo did "buy" new imagining music for some of Channel 2's news programs. The music could be "in house' already thus no expense. I am not too familiar with Apollo. They still have the helicopter traffic reports on the radio.

At least on WSB 95.5, I have not noticed anything on the air that seems to have been a budget cut. TV on the other hand I have noticed the 11PM news is a lot less field work. Also, not a fan of the new long format 11 PM news. If I am not interested in a story, I am not waiting around 8 minutes until it is finished.

There have been cuts at the Cox radio stations although relatively minor until the Kiss morning show (if that was a cutback). I heard a rumor that starting on October 1, live local news and traffic on WSB during the overnight hours will be eliminated.

I thought the "24 hour traffic center" was sponsored by "Cool Ray". Isn't all of the traffic reporters in Atlanta "outsourced"? IIRC There were commercials (not per inquiries) around and during the news last time I listened after midnight. These have been might freebies.

Most of WSB Traffic Reporters are in house. the chopper they use is the Total Traffic Chopper that is shared by the other stations in ATL.

Hmmm, all the syndicated Urban AC morning shows have homes already here in ATL.

Rickey Smiley - HOT 107.9
Steve Harvey - MAJIC 107.5/97.5
Russ Parr - CLASSIX 102.9
Rick & Sasha - OG 97.9

Chubb Rock, SiMan and Carol Blackmon has a show that’s advertised to be syndicated in morning or afternoon drive. I think they are on 105.5 The King out of Covington.

I don’t listen to KISS 104.1 outside of the Saturday morning show with Youngblood. They’re to slow now for my taste.

I, too, have heard about overnights being cut at some point this year. Cool Ray only sponsors the traffic center during drive time, from what I gather.

the article says that toni moore, the 3rd co-host will mornings until a new show it put together.

this is a shocker considering there numbers have been in the top 5 overall as a station. no reason has been given as to why Art Terrell and Cory "Zooman" Miller are out.

WALR may be in the top 5 in most of the key demos overall, but AM drive has consistently underperformed ratings wise. I suspect that was the key driver of the decision to make a change.

The “new” PD Terri Avery does have a history with Toni Moore and Neiko Flowers, which is probably what led go them staying on. Toni Moore hosted several NTR events for WBAV/WPEG when Terri was PD and she was on co-owned WVEE. Neiko interned at WPEG and arrived at WALR before Terri which could have helped her get the job there.

Terri is a good PD and knows what she’s doing. She was in Charlotte for 14 years, and brought WBAV to #1 in its demo for the first time and kept it there for most of her tenure. WPEG was also #1 or #2 in its demo for most of her stay as well.
