Morning Joe 2.0: Scarborough "On Hiatus", To Return With 3-Hour Show

... CC could possibly move Rush and Sean to WOR without puchasing the station. That would wreak havoc with WOR's programming, but it would be a nice paycheck for Buckley. Beck and C2C are already on WOR, so it isn't far-fetched...

If Buckley is considering getting money from CC to "clear" 13 hours of programming per day, they may as well sell WOR to CC outright.

But you're right, no sign of a sale from Buckley yet.

Buckley is already getting money from CC for Beck and C2C. WOR dropped Joey Reynolds for C2C. Reynolds' overnight show was being syndicated on the WOR Radio Network. C2C moved to WOR when WABC dropped the show for "Red Eye Radio with Doug McIntyre" from Citadel.

I don't claim to know how these things work, but it might well be cheaper for CC to pay WOR to clear Premiere programming than to purchase the station outright. We all know CC is in no financial position to purchase any stations at this time. :)

Considering the CC philosophy of putting Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity on most of their news/talk stations could also be considered a "cheap" method, time will tell.

It's a "cheap" method if you've got a station to put them on! Blowing up 105.1 is risky, and CC can't afford to purchase WOR. :)

WOR is not as strong as WABC , I was in the Catskill mountains, WOR did not come thru good ABC did. Any idea how much $$$ WOR would be sold for if at all ??

That's true, WABC is stronger than WOR. WABC is one of the strongest stations in NYC.

WOR is barely listenable at night south of Exit 91 on the Garden State Pkwy. It comes in OK during the daytime. 660, 770 and 880 are good at all hours, except for occaisional spottiness at night. Mets and Yankees fans can still hear their team's games on 660 and 880 respectively, fairly well.

Not sure how much $$$ WOR could be sold for. :)

And here's another reason why I think ESPN would want the 710 signal more than Clear Channel:

Wouldn't ESPN want to be breathing down The Fan's neck, right next to them on the AM dial?

Good point, but ESPN prefers FM. If they did get 710, there would be three 710 ESPN's, NY, LA and Seattle. :)

And as I said on the previous page in this thread, it could work to ESPN's advantage in a strange way. Think of it as the old "Y-107" country "trimulcast" - only with 50,000-watt blowtorches instead of limited signals on 107.1 FM.

I don't see that happening. The three 710 ESPNs would serve three different markets on both coasts. What marketing synergies could their be between NY, LA and Seattle? There are no synergies between the existing 710 ESPNs in LA and Seattle, except for their dial position. All they share is ESPNs national programming, just like all ESPN stations. If ESPN were to land on 710 in NY, do you think you'd hear an ID like "710 ESPN New York, Los Angeles, Seattle..."? Makes no sense, IMHO.

All we can do is speculate, as Buckley has shown no interest in selling WOR to CC, Disney or anyone else. Disney/ESPN has shown no interest in WOR. They are interested in a class B FM. :)

Plus Bonneville is the owner of the "710 ESPN" in Seattle, and not Disney/ABC. The only connection would be in the station branding and ESPN affiliation. Nothing else though.
