'Father Knows Best' actress Wyatt dies

By BOB THOMAS, Associated Press Writer 22 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Jane Wyatt, the lovely, serene actress who for six years on "Father Knows Best" was one of TV's favorite moms, has died, said her publicist. She was 96.

Wyatt died Friday in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Bel-Air, according to publicist Meg McDonald. Her death also was confirmed by Bernard Johnson of the funeral home Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors.

May God bless her! She was one of the great ladies of Movies and television's golden age. I didn't realise she was in her nineties. She had a great life! Jane made her first movie in the early thirties.

I'll never forget when I was in high school we were reading the book "Great Expectations". The teacher showed the movie in class (actually on film). Jane Wyatt was in it at a very young age. It must have been one of her first roles. I stood up and yelled there's Spock's mother! I didn't get in trouble. In fact, I think my teacher was inpressed that I was actually paying attention and drew attention to the film for the other kids.

RIP. Jane Wyatt was always a real professional. It was noted that she reprised her role as Spock's mother in the first Star Trek movie (mid 80s, I think). I remember thinking that she looked great - she must have been in her 70s at the time. It was either good genes, or clean living - and was borne out by her long life.

Jane Wyatt was born August 12, 1910.

She was 76 in STIV:TVH
57 at the time of Journey to Babel.
44-49 during the run of Father Knows Best
27 in Lost Horizon.
24 in Great Expectations.

She was three and a half years younger than Robert Young; 14 years older than Mark Lenard.
