Move to Asnebumskit has improved WICN 90.5's signal A LOT inside 128

I'm not the first with this observation, but first-adjacent WZBC 90.3 used to make WICN unlistenable at my location (Arlington Heights, atop Belmont Hill maybe .3 miles north of Route 2). I've now discovered that, since WICN's move from the Channel 27 tower to Asnebumskit Hill in Paxton, splatter from WZBC, though noticeable, no longer makes WICN's signal unlistenable here (using a CC Radio Plus with only the built-in telescoping antenna). What a delight! GREAT selection of music! (Though WGBH plays jazz overnight, there is minimal overlap in content with WICN, whose music selection is much more to my liking.) BTW, if you like the music that WICN plays but you still have problems receiving WICN over the air, the station's streaming audio is great.

How can WICN raise enough money to stay on the air from people who have one foot in the grave and who never spend money on anything except caskets and funerals?

WAAF take note!!! :D

WICN comes in better now here in Roslindale even with WZBC less than 4 miles away.

Agreed. Somebody at WICN obviously did their homework and got off of Stiles Hill (Channel 27 tower) rather quickly. It never worked well for them from the get-go. Glad they moved to Paxton! More power to 'em...... literally! ;)

The WICN signal is MUCH stronger here in the Merrimack Valley than it ever was on the WUNI-TV/DT tower and certainement when it was at the Worcester Science Center, or next door to the Worcester Art Museum. I get it very well on my main FM receiver with a little bit of hiss in stereo, and even on one table radio. I wonder if it's impinging on WAMC-FM anywhere in the Pioneer Valley.

As I mentioned before, it's probably politics that keeps WAAF on the channel 27 tower. On paper the WUNI tower makes sense, but anyone who has ever listeed to WAAF knows they did a LOT better from their old site then the new one. Also, you have to understand that the old WAAF was quite directional (unofficially) by the way the antenna was side mounted on the support pole. In the vertical plane, it radiates the equalivent of 76,000 watts at 500 feet right towards Boston. There's a reason those bays are 4 feet off the pole!
