It's no KTU but it may be movin in that direction. That's righ, Movin 107.5 Dallas played "Short Dick Man" by 20 Fingers at 8 PM today, and earlier in the day played KWS "Please Don't Go",, and "Release Me" by Angeline. They're also playing Enur's "Calabria" quite a lot.
Meanwhile WISX 106.1 in Philly is sounding more like 103.5 KTU in that it will play Freestyle. Tracks like "Catch Me I'm Falling" by Pretty Poison "Dreamboy/Dreamgirl" by Johnny O and Cynthia, Stevie B "In My Eyes", Nice & Wild "Diamond Girl", George Lamong "Look Into My Eyes", even his newer "Don't Stop Believin". At the same time My 106.1 will on occasion play non-Rhythmic titles like "Who Says You Can't Go Home" by Jersey favorites, Bon Jovi. Along with 103.5 KTU and Movin 92.5, My 106.1 seems to be one of three Rhythmic ACs that tend to do well in the ratings. And while KTU is now more friendly towards current titles, Movin 92.5 has moved further away from them.
Movin 99.7 San Francisco is playing September's "Cry For You" in heavy rotation as well as Akon's "Right Now". Older titles I've noticed include Quad Cities "C'Mon N Ride It".
93.1 The Party Las Vegas continues playing Dance records like "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay.
With the exception of (god awful) Movin 93.9 L.A., I've noticed that more Rhythmic ACs are now more current and recurrent based, and playing titles like Pink's "So What", Kevin Rudolf's "Let It Rock, Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy", and Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold". The 70s and 80s titles are played a lot less frequently, mainly in the mid-day hours. That is definitely the case with stations like Movin 99.7, The Party in Vegas, and Movin 100.7 in Salt Lake City.
Party 95.7 Denver is a unique Rhythmic AC in that it's not afraid to play gangsta Rap rather than just the safe crossover Hip Hop titles. It pretty much plays all the Hip Hop and Dance titles that were played on KQKS KS 107.5 (KS 104 till the mid 90s) in the 90s, and plays a good amount of current Hip Hop. It also airs Slow Jams late at night from 10 PM to midnight, and I believe 93.1 The Party in Vegas is doing the same.
Movin 100.7 Jacksonville seems to be evolving towards the same sound as Denver's station though it may end up going full blown Rhythmic CHR. I'm also surprised 93.9 Kiss FM Raleigh-Durham hasn't taken advantage of the fact that this market doesnt have a Rhythmic CHR. More currents and more Hip Hop titles should help jettison this station's ratings in the Research Triangle.
The most neglected Movin station appears to be the one in Phoenix...
So in what direction will some of the Rhythmic ACs move to? I've read today that the new Virgin 99.9 Toronto is doing well, and similarly formatted stations are slated for Vancouver and Montreal. I could easily Virgin stations popping up in the US, mainly on former Movin stations.
Would work really well in San Francisco. And what about Los Angeles? 102.7 KIIS-FM continues to dominate in the ratings, and a CHR that's cleverly programmed to appeal to adults (ie doesnt shy away from Rhythmic hits but plays more Pop/Rock then KIIS-FM) along with the Virgin brand and imaging could make for some good competition.
