MOVIN's big announcement on Monday morning at 7:30

Since yesterday MOVIN 92 has been promoting a "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT" on Monday morning at 7:30. I'm not one to say that I have inside knowledge, but I do. They've decided on a morning show. Although Rick Dees may seem like an enticing choice or an obvious one because he begins at the LA MOVIN on Monday, I know for a fact that it is going to be the syndicated WHOOPI program out of New York. I owe you all a coke if I'm wrong. I'm not a record rep, so that means Coca Cola...not what you're thinking. Go Whoopi!!!

If that's the case...not a bad choice. Good fit for the audience (though we may need to give her some time to get comfortable with radio ... think she's only been doing this about 1/2 year or so).

Would take Whoopi over Oprah anyday .... starting every day with "How ya doin'....GIRLLLLLLLLL FRIENDDDDDDD" would sure be an offset to the "makes you Feel GOOD" liners that envelope each side of that talent belch.

Whoopi, like John Madden, not very fond of airplanes .. so wouldn't expect a TON of in-market visibility. then again ... KIXI seems to be getting by attributing every live appearance, remote, etc. to "Dan Murphy" because, well, there IS NO OTHER CHOICE!!!! He IS the entire air staff/operations/coffee taster for the station.

Given what I know, I find it very hard to believe Whoopi will be heard on Movin. Sources tell me the announcement has NOTHING to do with Whoopi, although I'll be the first to admit my sources don't always know what they are talking about.

We're just HOURS away folks!

I bet it IS re 'Whoopie'....

Hey Stutson: "blpppppppp!"

I'm afraid my head is going to explode if I have to listen to any more of this %%%%!!! I tried to listen for 15 minutes but every time they leaned into some hip-hop piece I was making a mosh-pit dive for the receiver power cord.

Nice call, chief.

Does Whoopi sing background for Sir-Mix-A-Lot?

Was that concert their so called "Big Announcement"? I must admit I enjoy listening to the station but management is just going to run this station into the ground. Seattle had 3 recent station launches....Jack, Movin' and the Wolf. Jack's approach obviously calls for no jocks, but the truth is that it really has worn out its welcome here in Seattle and will continue to slip if changes aren't made. Movin' although it has claimed will eventually have jocks, seems to be taken their sweet time with it and I'm afraid will suffer the same fate as Jack if something isn't done soon. You can't just go on forever playing the same boring sweepers and CC Music Factory over and over again and not expect the audience to become bored with the station. At least the Wolf had a solid gameplan....play the 10,000 songs and then have the jocks ready to go. So while people accuse that Fitz guy of having 200 screen names and spending too much time on here, the truth is that you have to respect the way Entercom handled their launch of the Wolf and that is why they are in a battle with a heritage country station so soon after coming on the air.

Here's the exact copy from their website:

MOViN 92.5 is throwing Seattle's Bigget Party - HOUSE PARTY 2006 - and it's FREE!! We're bringing you your favorite artists for FREE!! The only way you can get in is to win your tickets from MOViN 92.5 on-air, online & on the streets! Keep it tuned to MOViN 92.5 and logged on to www.movin925.fm for updates on where and when you can score your passes to MOViN 92.5's HOUSE PARTY 2006.

They misspelled "Biggest"! Or were they trying to say bigot? Either way, if you promote the heck out of a "Major Announcement" even to the point of having a countdown to the exact time of the announcement on your website for a week, you'd better actually have a BIG announcement. Furthermore, when you do tell the audience your life-changing news...you better give them all of the information! Don't just plan a lame concert and then say "keep listening to find out how you can maybe win a ticket". Tell 'em exactly how and when they can win. For their sake...I hope this is not their big Fall promotion!

not a horrible deal...free concert with their artists. i agree the announcement wasn't as big as everybody thought, but if it got people listening it worked right?

I'm no fan of robo-radio...no personality beyond liners, sweepers and Audiovault, but we've got to look at it from listener's point of view...Hmmm what's going to affect me more as a listener...Whoopi's lame ass syndicayed show or a FREE concert.

Admit it, we were dissapointed because we're all radio geeks and wanted to hear some cool radio stuff, not some boring promotion.

what happened to the guy that said Whoopi was coming to mornings?? That still the case dude?

Wonder if they are any closer to finding jocks, they still have the job posting up for full time airstaff.

Movin is likely to do another "big announcement" since they left the door open for another artist at their show.

If they want to take the station to the next level, they should hire a morning show. Arranging for live, extended renditions of Motownphilly and Baby Got Back isn't taking the station to a new level.

There isn't a PD left at Sandusky besides Carol Handley that would have a clue as to how to take their station "to the next level". They're all just Selector geeks. Do what the consultant says and arrange the music categories according to the latest music test. Not a personality coach or aircheck critique session amongst them.

Still, its good to see MOViN do something besides hang banners by the freeway!

This "tease" of the audience at Movin' is only going to backfire on them in the long term. I agree with most of the comments here that unless the last of the staff at Sandusky can see beyond the consultants and look to the average listener within earshot of 92.5, this station's so-called "major announcement" will be promotional suicide and their major announcement next year at this time will either be a "sale" or another program change.

The station needs talented on-air staffers now, and Kaye needs to PAY them something....which means talent with good experience that can bring the station to the next level. I think he needs to look outside and bring in a team that has a good track record, not rely on some cheap gimmick like this latest stunt. Pay now or pay dearly later, because the "butt" commercials won't last forever, neither will the intelligent Seattle audience which expects more.
