It seems like that would also be the case for the analog transmission gear eventually. Is it getting more difficult to find used or new analog AM transmission gear?

No, as there are still tens of thousands of AM stations worldwide, many making a profit.

And there are multiple manufacturers of AM gear all over the world... including China and Russia. All they have to do to sell in the US is get type acceptance from the FCC.

Well, that kind of mirrors what's going on with the consumer receivers. I guess it's not that surprising.
