Mrs. Malloy predicts "a new home in NYC;" Mr. Malloy vows they'll find "rat b__" behind AAR leaks

Mike Malloy's producer-wife posted the following on the Mike Malloy Show bulletin board:

Kathy Malloy here (using my own log in =)

Just FYI y'all, it's the honest-to-God truth that we were taken off WLIB for financial reasons. Our ARBITRONS were as good/better than every other WLIB program. There's much behind the scenes goings-on we're not able to discuss publically, but you should believe me on this.

And we should be on a NEW home in NYC next quarter (ALL of us =)

Thanks for listening,
Molly's Mom

Mike Malloy's Air America program was taken off WLIB in order to carry a delayed broadcast of ABC's "The Satellite Sisters," in what was reportedly a pay to play deal.

Meanwhile, Mike Malloy while filling in yesterday for Randi Rhodes stated on air during the first quarter hour:

"There is a spy inside Air America Radio, that puts out all of our personal private information out on to the internet, and usually goes to this freak Brian somebody, who writes, uhh, I don't know, some kind of a column, uhh, I think he's a failed radio talk show host." ...

08:55

"You know, every time Air America farts, these people get diarrhea, and it's just incredible to watch, I love to watch it." ...

09:20

"It's difficult working for a company like Air America, where you have a little weasel inside, uhh, who picks out all the information, ohh this is what Danny Goldberg said, oh, this is what Carl Ginsberg said, oh this is what they did to Mike Malloy, you know, I mean, just, it's okay, go ahead, keep doing it. Eventually, we'll find this little rat bastard, and, and, probably, give him, or her, a medal, for promoting the radio station, or the network, as much as he, or she, does."

Malloy also added some questionable assertions about the extent of the company's success, including:

"Any market we've been in we usually increase the audience on whatever radio station exponentially within months."

This statement is either blatant hype or Malloy needs to go back and review high school Algebra I.

Many of the markets, when I was keeping track last year, went from no ratings to as much as a 1 share or more- so he could be right. Let's see: 500 previous listeners to 5000- that's an exponential leap (x10) from your original. He isn't talking about the big markets for sure, but the little ones. Unless he is talking about specific demos (but he says audience so I'll assume he means everyone).

In my observation, the record is uneven. Often marginal stations stayed marginal; but some fell off the radar screen. Where they get a good signal in a market with the right socio-political demos, libtalk can and has done well. However, in those markets, libtalk stations consistently do local programming and pick shows from Jones and other providers - they just don't plug into the AA feed and let it go at that. Most of the time the successful stations are part of clusters and are sold and promoted well.

AA's problem (one of them anyway) is they'll sign up anybody, just so they can claim another "affiliate." Another is they expect the world to beat a path to their door (like Field of Dreams).

I suppose if station has a one share and retains a one share, that would be an "exponential" change.
